Anyone seen EggBeaters or Just Whites here? I am too lazy to separate my eggs for my egg white omlete. Is it just me, or is Germany not really into the healthy stuff?? What's with all these fattening sauces on everything? Don't they want to actually taste the food and not the sauce?

Shit. Are you being serious?? You don't eat the egg yolk? Eating modified foods aren't healthy for you either, you are just being a guinea pig for food scientists.

Come on, I am not the only person who eats just egg whites...Talk to all the health nuts...the body builders... Don't knock it till you tried it!
Yeti
An egg white omelete ? Jaysus, like a fried egg that's been attacked by an Alien ?

Just when you think you have seen almost everything...

I didn't think I'd like egg white omlettes either, but have had a few in the states here this week, and was pleasantly surprised.

Never seen eggbeaters in Munich. I doubt they appeal to the processed pork and potato crowd. Even if they did sell them, they'd be expensive and a pain in the ass to keep going to a special store to buy. I hear you on the separation thing, but in the long run the lazier route here actually would be to do it yourself. smile.gif

I have never seen them, but I have also never looked, but try Basic the Bio shop or any Reform house- they might offer something like that.

instead of breaking the egg into half, just make a small hole(not a pin hole, something bigger) on the top of the egg and pour the white out .. the yolk will stay back in the shell , cheap and easy !!!
DDBug
I have looked for them, and other egg substitutes but never found them. I did find powdered eggs in a Texco in Somerset - but they were about a year past the expiration date...
Daisy
powdered eggs???!!?!! What are you people eating? Space food?

My roommate in college used to eat egg whites with salsa. And then worked out like crazy. She wanted to lose weight. And she did because there is no substance to egg whites. She had horrible (and by horrible I mean really stinky) bowel movements as well. She was not fun to live with the months before spring break.

If you know someone with a Metro card, they sell litre tetrapak cartons of egg whites (Eiklar) which keep open for about 5-7 days in the fridge. showem buys them but she's on her holidays. Any of the big wholesalers will do them (for caterers).
I've never seen Eggbeaters here.

michelizda, I think separating your egg yolks is going to be a lot easier than getting ahold of Egg Beaters or similar. And cheaper.

Maybe Egg Beaters is not quite in the same category, but I get really sick of substitute this and substitute that when I go to the US. You would be hard-pressed to find anything real in my parents' refrigerator, except possibly a gallon of milk (skim.) What passes for butter (I Can't Believe It's a Tub O' Chemicals!) is pathetic.

But since it's "free" from transfats or real sugar or whatever, feel free to load up on as much of it as you want. This has not made for a healthy country so far.
Yeti
I've seen Eggbeaters here. It's not what you're looking for but it may help you lose weight, without that "Apocalypse now" situation in the toilet or bathroom.

I will have a TT visitor out here next week, and if she's willing, I could possibly send a big carton of Egg Beaters back with her. Of course, they'll have to be out of the fridge for the flight day in order to do so.
jester
I'm looking for something similar here in Germany as Egg Beaters.

http://www.eggbeaters.com/products/faqs.jsp

Its basically a carton of egg whites with the yolks removed with a few other vitamins and nutrients added?
No joy so far looking and my German is not the best, they all think I'm looking for protein wink.gif
Neil
...I think you're being a bit optimistic if you recon you'll get them here !
you're best bet is probably a "food from home" type business
willy
No such luck!! You're better of separating the whites yourself and saving the yolk for home "hair/face masks". The amino-acids make your hair shine like diamonds and gives an instant collagen boost to your face. smile.gif
Nicole
If you're desperate I can get you some but it'll cost more to ship it to you than what they cost. Does it have an expiration date as I've seen it in the chilled cabinet on the base.
jester
I'm not exactly desperate for them.
I thought I might be able to get a similar product here, but I've had no luck!

Where would you source them from Nicole?
They have an expiration date once opened, but you can buy them frozen.
Nicole
US Army base. Do they not have something similar in powdered form or were you after the fresh stuff??
jester
Not sure if it comes in powdered form.
Ideally I would like it fresh, was looking for something I could pick up locally in a supermarket or health store.
Thought I would be able to get something like it here.
If I can't locate it I'll take up Willy's suggestion... it's just that I'm so lazy wink.gif
neilg
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but why not just used eggs?

P.s you can do lots more interesting things with egg yolks than smear it on your hair... no, not that! You can used them to make ice cream, or zabaglione.

here is a nice egg beater wink.gif
jester
Mainly health reasons!
Looking for a healthier alternative!
lilac_enigma
I'm sorry, but that just sounds bizarre. blink.gif

I'd have thought just eating less eggs altogether would be healthier. Or, if you must, just leave out the yolks yourself.
Surely they have to add more then just "vitamins and other nutrients" to make the product last so long? Bet there's a preservative or two in there somewhere...
Showem
Just spotted this thread. Jester, if you have any connections, you can get 1L Tetrapaks of egg white from Metro. No added nutrients as far as I know, but lots of lovely, low-cholesterol protein.
Rhapsody
I'm looking for "fake eggs" or just egg whites, like Egg Beaters or some such. I feel bad for buying entire eggs and throwing away the yolks (gotta watch the cholesterol). But I can't find the fake eggs. Anyone know of where to buy them (stores, not actual locations)?
Thanks!

At the risk of having some loud-mouth from Dublin call me a facking pedant twice in one evening, you should know that some studies say eggs aren't such a cholesterol bomb they're made out to be.
Rhapsody
Wow thanks to whomever unearthed the previous thread!I guess I'll stop looking around...

And I get my cholesterol tested Thursday, the first time since I moved here; we'll see how good/bad it is...
yes
Give the yolk to soup kitchens.
