Went to the Hieratmeldungsamt this morning to arrange a date as I'm getting hitched. and needed advice on documentation etc.
The lady beamter or beamterin who saw me was, ...
Extremley friendly,
smiled..a lot,
cracked a few jokes even,
was totally helpfull,
and wished me luck as I left.

I could hardly believe it...
if only the majortiy of beamters were like that, this country would be so much easier to live in (sighs)
ps; this was in Frankfurt as well, already a notorious beamter/bastard city

Go 'way! Do you think we all came up the Rhein on a banana boat?! smile.gif

Yeah, OK, the last Beamtin I encountered at the Einwohnermeldeamt was also very friendly and had a good sense of humour. Apart from the language difference, I could have been back home in Ireland.

Not only that, I once made a London bus driver smile...

Yes, German is so much different than the Lithuanian or Polish you hear nowadays in Ireland wink.gif

Was there at the weekend and the place has changed an awful lot. The place seems to becoming more and more contenential, noticable through an increasing unfriendliness amongst people in general sad.gif

I am beginning to think that unfriendliness is not a special "German" thing anymore, in fact - the Germans are getting friendlier while the rest of Europe is getting colder...

The Beamtin at our wedding was friendly. And German.

Neil, are you still alive??
