Disappointing result for all those who believe that Germany is a leader in environmental friendliness. According to the World Economic Forum Report 2006, which lists 133 countries worldwide, Germany came 22nd on the list. Great Britain 5th.

Ha!!!

That's a slap in the face for all the snotty nosed Germans I know in Ireland who constantly complain about how enviromently unfriendly ireland is - we may not be as highly ranked as UK, but we're better than Germany.

(note: I'm not generalising Germans as a whole, but I know loads if Germans in Ireland (a lot through different forums on the web) who non-stop complain about Ireland - makes me wonder why they're still there if it's so bad and not in their "oh so perfect Gemany")

Irish Lassie, we must have some of the cleanest air and beaches going (apparently, the air in the region of Clifden, in Connemara, is the cleanest in Europe, or so I've been told).

We could do lot better regarding litter and illegal dumping, however. sad.gif

That's true, there are a lot of things that could be improved in Ireland, I know the country is far from perfect, but what country is?

But at least the Irish are starting to wake up on environmental issues, we still have a long way to go, but we'll get there.

Not surprising with all the smoking and Qualm in der Luft here!

No country is perfect, Irish Lassie, that's true, and I do believe that the Irish have woken up to environmental issues.

I find it hard to believe that both Germany and the UK received a higher score than Ireland for air quality (wha'? - unless they used Dublin city centre or Cork City to take their air quality samples huh.gif ).

We do seem to have done well in water quality and productive natural resources, anyway.

In any case, Ireland is years ahead of Germany is protecting the rights of non-smokers in public places (regardless of Germany's getting a higher score for air quality, the air quality of Irish restaurants and pubs is certainly better than the air quality of German restaurants ( ohmy.gif ) and Kneipen

interesting. In the ranking of this year Great Britain landed at place 5 - one year ago the country was still on rank 65. So what did they change in the past twelve months in their environmental policy?

Could it not just mean, that this year the criterias must have been different? wink.gif

I am so pleased, really having an anti Germany day
