Purple Muffin
Important Hotel Rooms need to be booked now!

We have just heard that a Messe is on in Frankfurt so anyone needing a room must book now.
The link to the Hotel is http://www.rma.de/hotels/hotels/luxor-hotel-frankfurt.htm. Please PM us after you have booked.

****Latest News****
Due to problems with the Luxor Hotel we did not get any decent price apart from those who have booked already online. The Hotel changed the prices from 59,-- to 180,-- for a single room and from 75,-- to 200,-- for a double room this afternoon. Sorry for this bad news. There is a Hotel Reservation Service under www.hrs.de anyone booking a hotel please let us know which one so that we can post this info online for others to benifit from. Would be nice to get people together in a hotel.
Once again sorry for this but Purple Muffin tried her best for us.

**** Hotel excelsion Single room 51 euros **** which includes the contents of the minibar and breakfast !
**** Booked via HRS here for a room of if that is full Hotel Memphis on the same HRS page has also been recomended -worth a try

Universal Britboard Meet-up

The universal Britboard Meet-up will take place on the 1-2nd April 2006 in Frankfurt.

Ebbelwei Express
We are planning a trip on the Ebbelwei-Expreß

Cost will depend on how many people will be there but as an example approx 10 euros was worked out. The meeting point will be 17:00 at the Hauptbahnhof. Start will be at 17:15. Exact details will follow

At the moment I have reserved a train for up to 30 people (22 seating and 8 standing) The minimum renting time is two hours. The cost is about 180€ for the two hours so the more people who come the cheaper it will be (we are working on about 8-10€ at the moment if 22 people sign up). I can arrange a bigger carriage if needbe - at the moment I am working on the numbers from the list which is 29 people. Whereas I know there are a few people bringing husbands/wives/children etc that might add to the 29 there are probably also a few people who might drop out so I was still working on about 30 people

*** Just one more thing, could we please try and keep this thread serious and to the point as hard enough as it is trying to keep track of everyone's requests without
having to wade through lots of witty comments to find the information we need, thanks ! ***

I will be organising drinks for on the tram. They do sell drinks on there but they are more expensive and since we are allowed to bring our own I thought it'd be easier to bring a case or two of beer and water or whatever soft drinks we might want.

Hotel
Because lots of us will be travelling to Frankfurt, some are looking at an overnight stay. This Hotel has been suggested
We are trying to get a group reduction from them for britboard members. For this we need a count
of heads who would book into the hotel so that we can present them with some sort of figure.
This is only for the offer, the Hotel will have to be booked by yourself.

Evening programme/meal
I am looking into a few options and info will be posted in due time. If anybody has any suggestions please send me a PM

Sunday brunch
We will probably meet up for brunch on the Sunday morning for those who want to come along.

Loopy and I have booked the same hotel as Neil, Excelsior[u]!

You can find it under HRS and Frankfurt am Main. The minibar is free of charge there, it will be empty by the time Loopy and I have finished with it! laugh.gif We're paying €67 for the room for the night including brekkie!
bendus2
Have also booked in at the Excelsior. Forgot to mention will be driving down from Düsseldorf, so if anybody fancies a lift then p.m. me.

Cheers

Ben

Okay, so I'm in the Excelsior too... Their own web-site points you at Restec, rather than HRS for reservations.

I wouldn't get worked up about the free mini-bar, though... They don't make any mention of the contents, do they? I wouldn't expect it to be well stocked -- Probably only a bottle of water, a bottle of juice and a packet of nuts, and you can keep anything else cool that you bring yourself cool.gif
Billy

Purple Muffin
Tell the truth you thought it was going to be naff until you realised how many people were coming! At least that was the impression I got everytime we talked about it...

Details for the brunch on the Sunday will follow it is just a case of who fancies it and then I'll reserve us a table! I will post details of this and the tram costs next week.
Bombi
Count "the Hagen lot" in for brunch anyway. smile.gif

Billy
Hi there

In case anyone is interested in the Luxor versus the Excelsior, I have just stayed in both for 1 night in the last 4 weeks, below are some of my personal opinions on both;

The Excelsior:
By far the better hotel, clean and comfortable, room furniture is modern, bed very comfortable and clean. Bathroom has hairdryer and shampoo bits, but quite compact. Free minibar contents has 2 beers, 2 pepsis, 2 orangshafts, 2 sparking waters, 1 large still water. Bed had a welcome chocolate on pillow. Breakfast is substantial; eggs, bacon (sort of), saugsages, smoked salmon, cheeses, meats, bread, toast, cereal/yoghurt/fruit bar, also chinese bar with noodles, rice, buns. Large fresh fruit bar, the bananas and apples came in handy while wandering round town next day! Breakfast finished at 11am. There is a car park, free of charge, left my car there next morning while exploring Frankfurt. Lobby has free tea/coffee/cake all day. Free internet usage in their business center on their PC. My room cost 51 Euro which included all above. Location is straight next door to the Main Station. Taxi rank straight outside and was very convenient.

The Luxor:
Less modern hotel, floors and corridors creaked, decor is 1960s colours (orange/black carpets and curtains - you know!), room furniture was old, lamps were old and did not work so my room was quite dark esp with that orange and black scheme, bed was OK but sheets didn't look that clean. Bathroom but dirty and cold, no hairdryer, no shampoo bits. No minibar. Car park cost extra 5 Euro. No Internet, or at least you will have to pay. Unfortunately I missed breakfast (had brunch instead elsewhere!) but breakfast finished at 9am or 10am anyway believe it or not on a Sunday! They told me that this is because the breakfast is done by extermal caterers. Coffee machine in corner in lobby but costs 1 Euro, and its machine coffee. Useful at 5am in morning though. Location is good for drinking, between Bornheim and Sandschuhausen, no real taxi rank close so had to walk and find one. Room cost 63 Euro (I got a company discount I think of 2 Euro)

Only my personal opinions, please don't take these as guaranteed of what to expect! I may just have been given a dud room in the Luxor.
Hope this helps. Looking forward to seeing you all on 1-2 April!

Billy
Purple Muffin
Can I just point out that the reason I did not recommend the Excelsor hotel was the location right by the Bahnhof would give you lot an awful picture of Frankfurt.
Billy
@Muffin, thanks for recommending the Luxor, everyone including me appreciates all your help. Based upon the hotel descriptions and prices, I would have also recommended the same. You are right, the location makes a big difference, the Luxor is a great place for Frankfurt drinking (walking distance) and close to Bornheim (which is lovely BTW), but the Excelsior is a 10 Euro taxi-ride and the Red Light District is straight opposite the station! You need stupid people like me to stay in them and tell you what they are like, so you can enhance your info for others. Loopy is right, I live in Heidelberg and apart from my second bedroom, my living room and at a push, the bathroom floor to recommend, I have absolutley no idea what the local hotels are like here cos I don't stay in them! biggrin.gif
BTW, Great day for hiking, hope you are having a great time in Bavaria!

@Billy: ...You get about a bit

@Loopy, best compliment I've had in ages, thanks! smile.gif
bbulldog
I will be bringing a Union Jack and a St. George flag with me for the Team Britboard photo, has anyone got a Scottish or a welsh flag? then we can try and get them all in the piccy. biggrin.gif
