Anyone know if it's possible to get the above anywhere in Düsseldorf?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Sorry for an off-track post, but I was wondering given you both are in Düsseldorf (I assume), is there a large Chinatown there? And if so, are there any Chinese New Year celebrations planned this weekend?? Thanks for your reply

Can only add to what bendus2 said, I've not heard of anything Chinese going on. Sorry.

Hi bombi, and all,

had a look at "food from home" site, but can`t seem to find any of those indian cookin sauces

am I blind or has he not got them?
Telford
There's also American/British foods on Corneliusstrasse not far from the station. They sell frozen bacon, sausages and bread amongst other things.

http://www.ab-foods.de/

Aldi has a 'Asian week' this week with some Indian sauces and tinned stuff is there since Thursday. I bought a tinned Tikka Masala and a Korma. Not great stuff but eatable and it took me back years!

As for Brits in Düsseldorf, I actually live at the back-end of Neuss and there's an English woman with a German husband living right opposite!

not tried those BBulldog but if you recommend them I`m up for any thing!

normally I just have those sauces (tikka masalla, korma, etc) from pataks or Sharwoods,
add a bit of chicken, colli, onions etc. and ab in the oven
I`ve got a DEALER but just wanted to compare prices and "versand"

I was just amazed that I cound`nt find em by foodfromhome although its not food from home, but you know!

Another thing, has anyone had Germans round for a curry? (poppa`s chutney naam, the works)
I don`t do it any more, as they don`t seem too impressed, and its just a waste of time and money! same with the sunday roast
get the bockies and kartoffel salad`s out, that always goes down well! lecker!!!

Düsseldorf is CRAWLING with Brits - I used to live there too and miss a good Altbier from Ürige or Füchschen !! Really, there are lots of Brits living (long term) in D.

- you said you live in "the back end of neuss" - where though??

- i keep hearing that there are loads of Brits in Neuss and Düssl - just never meet them :excl:

I live in Grevenbroich.
Just off the A46 on the way out towards Heinsberg and Aachen and not that far away from the beautifully named town of Titz. Straight out of a Carry-On film biggrin.gif

If you want to meet Brits (or English speakers generally), the best places to go are the Irish pubs. There are some real weirdos about but normal people as well.
bbulldog
only just stumbled on this again.

@jaygee
Pataks sauces you can find in lots of Asia shops. Thats where i get mine when i run out. Food from home also do them, give steve a mail on that.

The Knorr Sizzle & Stir (fry) are not bad had one last night. A good quick curry.

but for curry recipies look at this page. http://www.curryfrenzy.com/ Look under the Spice kits link. This is a good curry too, i just change the first powder with Pataks Curry paste (any type) but i add grated ginger & Garlic and the second powder with Garram Massalla powder ( one tea spoon). comes out good.

mind you not really for breakfast laugh.gif
We have had many Germans round for a curry and so long as it is not too hot then its ok for them. Chutneys they normally keep away from.

@Telford Ah Titz yes i have been there a few times. I used to live in Wegberg & MG and of course i know Grevenbroich biggrin.gif

Yo Jaygee,

Always a good idea to check the asian supermarkets in town. They nearly always stock Pataks pastes and sauces, and hundreds of others. Can also get Soya Sauce etc 100 times cheaper there than in the German supermarkets. Theres bound to be loads of Asian shops on Düsseldorf.

Went to the Asia shop in Hagen opposite the Bahnhof today, got me Pataks pastes in, plus fresh Coriander too. All the spices there are cheaper than the German shops biggrin.gif Oh yes Garam Massalla a must for a good curry smile.gif

Absolutely crawling! I have to agree. Have lived hear since last June (Stadtmitte) and love the place. Just walking around the Altstadt and you hear English from every second person (almost!!) Good tip for meeting some - one of the Irish pubs during a footie or rugby game.
