Lets hope it works out !!!

Heard last week that BA are going to launch a cheepie Airline: BAConnect

I can only hope that a few of their routes will get cheaper and take away some of Ryanairs passengers.
It's about time that BA recognises that the way we travel has changed. High fares are a thing of the past, and Ryanair and easyjet have recognised that. If BA can achieve what Ryanair has, then maybe all of us Expats can fly home on a reasonably priced flight to an airport that is not out in the sticks.

STANSTED SUCKS !!!

Lufthansa have long started their own cheepie airline: Germanwings, and they are making a profit, so letz hope that BA gets it right !!

Looks like right now all they are saying is they will reduce the prices and rename the airline to City Connect. Hopefully when they do the big announcement on 1 Feb they will add some regional airports. Their prices aren't too bad right now. Stuttgart to Heathrow is about €110, Germanwings to Stansted is about €85. It just depends where you want to fly to. I know the Midlands isn't well covered by Ryanair or Germanwings but with this new announcement maybe they will rise to the challenge

Birmingham is fine for me... definately better than Stansted. But there again it just depends on where you want to fly to. Stansted is a no frills airport, and for some people just perfect. Just not for me sad.gif
I just hope that they will offer more flights from stutti !! Maybe Exeter or Bristol laugh.gif I should be so lucky ...

They are just renaming CitiExpress, which are the flights I usually end up on anyway. As Nicole said, the prices are generally not too bad with BA (depending on when you book) - I've had a FRA-BHX flight for €78.

Looks like the main change will be the single fares - and it is about blimmin time! Sometimes it would be easier for me if I could fly into BHX and fly back out of MAN, what would be even better would be a few flights to NCL but that looks as unlikely ever!

I've been told that BA will be stopping the Cologne - Heathrow route from March which is a bummer, means I'll have to get up to Düsseldorf now.

Pretty much every incumbant carrier that has tried to launch a low cost subsidiary in the past few years to compete with the low costs airlines has failed. They simply do not have the same cost structure as the low cost airlines and therefore cannot compete on price. I don't see why British should be any different, but good luck to them anyway.

did BA not have one previously then they sold it ?

Wasn't 'Go' British Airways?

Yeah it was, it was bought out by Easyjet.

yeh, surprising they can do that after selling Go. Maybe the non-compete agreement was only for a few years. As everyone is saying normal BA prices are not bad and overall cost can work out cheaper when you consider you are going city to city. Cheapest Stuttgart - Heathrow price is actually E90 which is top ( E14 each way + taxes ).

my dad used to work for BA, then moved to GO. GO used to be a really well run company before BA decided to get rid. The GO management then bought the company themselves. This is how Barbara Cassani made a small fortune (she went on to be CEO of the London Olympic games bid before Seb Coe took over). Then after a while Easyjet took over GO with an offer that was too good to refuse. BA should never have got rid of GO as it was profitable back then and maybe it could have evolved into something really big which would have supplemented BA's product offering perfectly.

from what I have heard, BA are only setting up a new low cost service between regional UK airports? it would be very surprising if they are actually going to offer new 'low cost' fares or routes between the UK and European destinations.. well, either way I will keep my fingers crossed!

prices between the UK and Frankfurt aren't bad right now though, Lufthansa offer the standard 99 EUR fare between LHR and FRA, and you can get a return from FRA to LHR on BA for as little as 70 quid now...
