Policemen will not be allowed to wear earrings, body studs, pony tails, dreadlocks, three-day old beards or visible tattoos...1 bracelet and 1 neckchainwill be allowed as well as make-up provided it is discreet.

I think it's a ploy to get rid all style with the exception of their beloved mullets laugh.gif

I think it's a good thing, scruffy bunch of buggers if you ask me. They always seem to be standing around smoking whenever I see them. Can you imagine the Met doing that??? Along the same lines we went to the US Air base at Ramstein recently and they have Bundeswehr on the gate doing security. They have pierced eyebrows, goatee beards with that 2" bit hanging down the front (fanny beards I call them wink.gif ) some seriously bad hairdos including the totally shaved on the sides and long on top sort. Can't imagine what the British Army would make of the individuality allowed.

I thought the scruffy appearance of the uniformed police here was some sort of training for later undercover work. They wouldn't have to dress down to mix with the underbelly of society, would they? (actually, they might have to dress up). :-)

I'll never forget the first policewoman I saw in Eastern Europe - I was in the market in Riga, Latvia and saw a tall (6' plus) girl with shoulder length blonde hair. She was wearing a smart blue uniform jacket and one of the shortest mini skirts I have ever seen, thus showing off extremely long legs. I didn't gawk for too long though - she was flanked on both sides by two very large policemen... :-)
