Hi,
Just wondered if anyone can tell me what the German equivalent to condensed milk is? I think Evaporated is basically kaffeesahne but its the thick fussells one I'm wondering about (ie sweetened condensed). If you've used it I would be grateful to know the brand name so I can buy a tin!
Oooh, also anyone know the name for Polenta auf deutsch or do I just look for Polenta in the foreign section?
Cheers

I have bought thick sweetened condensed milk in a tube here. It ws called Milchmädchen or something similar. For Polenta look in a health food shop (Reformhaus) it's called Mais..? something. If it's packed in clear cellophane it's quite easy to see if it's the right thing!

Maisgries?
To be honest I thought it was just called "polenta" in german.
A couple of members on the Leo dictionary forum reckon it could be called
Sterz or
Haidensterz.

You can buy polenta in Kaisers and it is sold under the name polenta - in ours, it is in the same section as the Oriental foods. Failing that, you can buy it in the Turkish section of the supermarket or in the Turkish shops.
