MARBURG, GERMANY - In the first such case in Germany, a man was handed a suspended jail term Monday for spitefully releasing onto the internet a sex video of his former girlfriend along with her phone number.

He was sentenced to 18 months' prison and ordered to pay her 35,000 euros (42,000 dollars) in damages.

Convicting him of criminal insult and trafficking in pornography, Judge Mirko Schulte said, "It's now technically impossible to delete these files off the internet." The film of the couple was available on free porn sites round the globe.

...

The girlfriend, 43, subsequently received phone calls from strange men.

I've been through Marburg more times than I can count, but it's not a place I ever stop after reading about The Marburg Virus, Marburgs claim to fame was that it hosted the first outbreak of an Ebola related haemorrhagic virus.

Yeah, I was at least expecting a link.

As to Marburg, Beautiful city I think you'll find if you can be bothered to get out of whatever vehicle you are traveling in and take the steps or lift up to the old town, the castle is also very nice, along with the uni from 1527 etc etc... worth a look if you are in the area.
Here are some pics if you don't believe me... Marburg

I know someone who works at behrings, but started work there a few years after the outbreak.

I've got out of my vehicle many times in Marburg, but never taken part in sight seeing as I had deliveries to make in the town. But is a town really classed as a city just because it has a University? Paderborn has an airport, a Uni and Dom but is still a town and Paderborn is larger than Marburg. Ok size doesn't make a city, if I remember correctly, there is a city in the UK that is hardly bigger than a village.

You should come and see Kerpen if you think Marburg is a small city!

Kerpen has no cathedral and no Uni but they classed it as a city. I think it has more to do with a translation problem though, as Stadt can mean town or City as far as I can tell.

The German Judicial system fail's again to protect the right's of it's citizen's.

18 month's, he'll not do time if he hasn't had a prior sentence on probation, as to the fine, unless he's loaded (then it won't hurt) he'll pay it back on HP.

His Ex. may be 43 year's old, but she is still a person, with right's & feeling's, that should be respected and protected.

Just wondering if she got any compensation? Will she have to sue privately? In which case, she won't see a penny of his money due to the steep fine.

I'm alway's saddened by stupidity.

St David's is Britain's smallest "city" and it's tiny. It's a lovely place to visit though.

It is of course possible that the couple have children, and since they split up that she is not letting him have access to seeing them, has stolen his house, is taking 80% of his money, effectively putting him in poverty, and his only pleasure in life is a DSL internet connection.

If that is the case (which I am not saying it is), I can understand his need for revenge.

@PM: 43 is not passed it ... give me a 21 and a 22 year old and I'd be well happy! biggrin.gif

Any sentence under two year's if he hasn't been a bad boy in the past will not mean him having to do time, the compensation could have been a million $'s, but if the bloke dosen't have the money he won't be able to pay.

I'm sad because my 22year's living in this country has allowed me to see the diference between reality and how thing's supposedly are. If he appeal's then she get's nothing, a good lawyer can really drag thing's out over a few year's or more. Leading to a reduction of sentence and the ammount of the fine.

Thank's for the welcome.

In the USA, as far as I know, a city can be a place with only a thousand inhabitants, the term seems to be used to refer to any place that is an independent municipality, ie has its own local government council.

@Muffin and Bombi: 43 is not passed it, but you know these middle-aged men prefer chassing younger girls tongue.gif (even when they have little chance of scoring)

I should think most of this guys male friends will be hacked off with his actions, one of the reasons a lot of women don't like being filmed/photographed is so it doesn't get circulated round his mates or put on the internet and now he has just ruined it for the rest of them. That said, when they broke up why didn't she take all this stuff with her?

I guess that would be Chichester... nice place, with many walks in seaside coves and inlets nearby. The Cathedral is worth visiting.

Brighton had to get together with Hove for city status. It was always known as little London anyway.

St David's is much smaller than Chichester and is in wonderful Wales! wink.gif

Chelmsford has a Cathedral, which was all that was needed in day gone by... a Cathedral and your town was instantly a city. Chelmsford has been campaigning for years to become a city, and the last I heard they were still classed as a town.
therealjade
In Germany (unlike in Britain) number of inhabitants is the only deciding factor between Kleinstadt und Grossstadt. I don't know how many inhabitants are needed for a Grossstadt but I always thought Marburg has about 80 000 inhabitants and I'd be surprised if that was enough.
It does have a nice Altstadt though btw - it took me several days to find it, but once I did I thought it was lovely if a bit small.
Maisflocke
Me thinks that the word Stadt simply causes confusion...

Stadt Hamburg = City of Hamburg
Stadt Rosbach = Town of Rosbach

It all depends if the person who translates Stadt translates it correctly. Many a German does not know that there is more than one translation for Stadt and hence always insists that Stadt is City. Using the German Gross or Kleinstadt unfortunately does not really solve the problem because, once again, you get a translation "Big City of Hamburg" or "Small City of Rosbach"
