Hello all, anyone out there have a recommendation of an English speaking IRIDOLOGIST in the Frankfurt area? ph34r.gif
Hannah
not that I'd knew any doctors at all in Frankfurt sorry, but you are looking for a

what? huh.gif
Nicole
It's a quack, sorry doctor who can tell what is wrong with you by looking in your eyes!!

Actually I think my Husband must be an Iridologist cos he only has to look inmy eyes to tell if i'm in a bad mad.gif or good smile.gif mood
Hannah
hmmm weird, it's not in any dictionaries. If it's a normal "Augenarzt" it says "oculist" or "ophthalmologist". Is an Iridologist something different? If not I would just look in yellow pages (Gelbe Seiten) for Augenarzt and phone there and ask the receptionist, if nobody here can help you, Willy

I gotta admit to not knowing what one was either and googled it to find out.

You may well in fact doubt it - fair enough! Although, having lived in Asia, I've developed a keen interest in healing the body through alternative ways. I'm a firm believer in the Asian "way of life"; such as avoiding prescription medicine and using acupuncture, massage or reflexology for treatment, etc.

I have been to an Iridologist before, and the practitioner was right-on and diagnosed my illness (which indeed was an intolerance to a certain food).

Just so you know, iridology is the study of the iris of the eye for indications of bodily health and disease.

Thank you for explaining that, I had no idea. unsure.gif I was brought up on school medicine, my Dad being a GP.

You learn something new everyday.

What an iridologist looks for are irregularities in the iris, such as brown spots and abnormal discolorations.

Case being, my younger sister was born with one brown eye and one green eye, and until seeing an iridologist at age 8, she suffered from bad spurts of moodiness. The iridologist diagnosed her as having an intolerance to sugar – so from that day on, she was taken off all sugars (of course, you can not eliminate all sugar from the diet, but limited) and surprisingly enough, that odd brown eye turned the colour green, to match her other eye.

My mother is a GP also ... although focused on "foods for healing".
Hannah
wow. Sorry, but never heard of a doctor like this. Good luck to find one in Frankfurt, who even speaks english. Forget my post about finding a normal "Augenarzt" in yellow pages then biggrin.gif

Perhaps a Heilpraktiker might know of one..? unsure.gif
willy
Good call Bombi, I'll ask around ... smile.gif

Just for your eye-curiosity, check this out, after eating a high-fat, cholesterol rich meal , such as “burg & fries, check out the white area of the eye next to your tear duct. If you have an “issue with high cholesterol levels in our body, it will be raised ... sometimes yellow, but in most cases, it will look like a little bump. This is a sign of too much cholesterol in the body.

I've had my eyes lasered. Does that make me immune to iridolgists' claims?

Iridologist something different

as far as I know Iridologists tend to be more on the homeopathic side of medicine
I went to one years ago here in Wetter to try and sort out my Migraine ( didn't help though dry.gif )
who was listed under "Heilpraktiker" (homeopathic doc) and I'm lead to believe quite a few
Heilpraktiker offer this too so maybe you should try a few of them. I think they call it

Iris-Diagnosis or Augen-Diagnosis

...reminds me of a funny thing which happened while I was seeing said doc, I'd been in Germany
about 2 years and my German was still a bit lacking in some areas, as he checked my general
condition before doing the eyes he asked me a few questions in a rather jovial manner, amongst
them " Trinken Sie Alkohol ?" (do you drink alcohol) I was I bit surprised by the question and
I replied "Ja gerne" ( yes please I'd be delighted !) ..he was a bit surprised by my reply too :$

...well it seemed funny at the time dry.gif ...When I went home and told my girlfriend what I said
she was in hysterics !

mine were bloodshot red the other day, well it was the 1st January laugh.gif

Did it hurt Luke, and was it expensive.?

If he is, who I think he is, namely Luke Skywalker, then it shouldn't hurt, because he knows how to handle a laser-sword. biggrin.gif

Doesn't hurt at all. It's more painful watching the DVD you get showing your eye being sliced up.

I got it done here. It cost 3 or 4 grand, can't remember, of which my health insurance stumped up one.

I'm so scared of the idea of anyone doing anything to my eyes I don't think I'll ever brave laser surgery mellow.gif . Event the thought of it gets me squirming!

I'll just have to stick to contact lenses... although since I changed to hard lenses 5 years ago, my eyes have really improved (both health-wise and what's the word - can't remember - how badly I can see!).

How "bad" were your eyes Luke? Long or short sighted?

As for the iridologist, I'd also never heard of it until someone mentioned it a work a couple of years ago. It's apparently not that unusual here, and everyone I knew who'd gone to one thought it was fab.

Does anyone know is this the sort of thing you'd have to pay for yourself? I'd be quite interested in going to one, as I also think I may have a certain food problem (apart from the eating-too-much-of-it one! laugh.gif ) and I'm not too keen on the millions of blood tests necessary at a regular docs.

I was short-sighted. -3.5 in one eye, -4 in the other. Got them done 18months ago. Would recommend it to anyone. You don't feel a thing. A bit of pressure but no more than you'd notice putting in, taking out lenses.
Bombi
How long does it last, for ever? I know short eyed people's eyes changes when they hit the 40s and they become long sighted as well - hence variofocul lenses or people taking their glasses off to read! ohmy.gif What happens then with lazored eyes?
Hellie
My brother had this done in the UK, it cost him 1300 pounds for both eyes, bit cheaper than here i would say. he said it didn't hurt at all, had to wear these patches over his eyes for the rest of the day (looked like a fly tbh biggrin.gif )

Had the usual follow up appointment and all was great.

I wear soft contact lenses that only need changing once a month, I'm happy with them but if a time comes that they start to become a problem, I'd definitely consider laser surgery.

BTW I was watching a program recently. They said that if you go on ebay.co.uk you can get them done for 750 quid! I checked this out and yep you can and its a reputable company too! They offer this due to cancellations of appointments. Does mean you have to have it done almost immediately but well worth it I'd say smile.gif

Anywhere would be cheaper then here oder?

Friend of ours went to Turkey to have her eyes lasered, she was well impressed by the set up, very professional, and a very good doc.
The doc. sent her home without carrying out the op as our friends eyes were "too dry". So I guess they are not just trying to make money out of you there otherwise they would have carried on regardless.

I had my eyes fixed in 1997, but I didn't opt for a laser.

I just got to the stage one day where I was really sick of walking into the pub on a cold winter's day and my glasses steaming up immediately, then I'd take my glasses off and stumble blindly around the pub until one of my friends called out to let me know where they were.

The problem with a laser is that it burns a sort of U-shaped gully in the eye, which is fine for improving really bad eyesight, but it can take a while to heal and it isn't terribly accurate.

I went for microsurgery which involves the use of a diamond tipped scalpel which cuts a clean V-shaped groove in the eye which heals faster and allows for more accuracy, the only problem is that it can't be used if your eyesight is really bad.

The whole procedure was really very quick and painless. Fist of all my eye was frozen with eyedrops and I was given some valium so I wouldn't fidget, then an electronic scanning pen was rubbed over my eye and this created a 3D map of my eye on a computer which then calculated the location, length and depth of the 4 incisions which would be made in the eye. These were then set into a cutting guide which was placed onto the surface of my eye (which was held open by clamps), and I just looked up into a microscope light (whilst comfortably lying down), my eye went blurry four times over the space of two minutes, and then I was told that it was all done ! I had to wear an eye patch for the rest of the day and use eye drops for a few days, but it just felt like I had a bit of sand in my eye. When I woke up the next morning I could see perfectly through my "new" eye!

For the next two weeks I wasn't allowed to put my head lower than my waist, and I wasn't allowed to do anything that would increase my blood pressure (sex & exercise were banned) so as not to mess up the incisions as they healed. After two weeks I then went back and had the other eye done.

@Bombi - As I was short sighted, the surgeon deliberately under-corrected by 0.5 dioptres, which isn't enough to notice, but means that when normal people become long-sighted with age and need glasses, I won't. And seven years on, I'm happily typing this without glasses, and had an eye test last month for my Swiss driving licence and they stamped the form to say I don't need glasses to drive.

I can't remember exactly how much it cost, but I got change from two grand, and if you add up how much you spend on glasses and contact lenses, it's a bargain.

I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wears glasses or contacts.

Hellie, I wouldn't do that if I were you. Think of all that oxygen you are starving your eyes of. Not to mentionn all the protein build up from tears. I really don't think leaving them in for a month is a good idea.
At least get yourself the daily-disposables and give your eyes a break at night.
Hellie
The lenses I have are designed specifically for this purpose and allow oxygen through to the eyes. tbh I do take them out once a week for a day (as recommended by my optician) I have been wearing them for 3 years now and have no problems whatsoever.

Obviously I have regular checks at the optician to monitor any changes which may occur wiht my eyes.

I can't stand people touching my eyes and the thought of clamps to keep them open makes me shudder and I react by closing the eyes tightly. Did you get this feeling before the op???

Very good thread this one - well done
