Hi All,
T com promised me broadband in Kronberg byNov then Dec 16 now its feb 2006.
Just realised im on holiday for 2 week s and have no account to get online.
I need a dial up whats the best way to go about it,
Deutsche Telecom in my opinion is the worst company in the world ever.
Can you watch live football on a dial up(is it fast enough)?

Tommy,
Albeit the wait for T-DSL from Telekom is usually very long in Western Civilization standards (I waited 4 weeks, 2 years ago), they actually do offer the service in Kronberg.
A colleague from work moved to Kronberg and did manage to get T-DSL installed after a waiting period of several weeks. Waiting several months (Nov to Feb) seems unreasonable. Are you living on the outskirts of Kronberg? Could be that they don't have DSL service where you are located, hence the wait.
I suggest you try to find out. If Telekom is providing service where you live- no reason why it should take this long.
I am not the expert on dial up and the only thing I can tell you is to avoid it. It's definitely not going to be sufficient for live footbal (I suppose you mean streaming).
Gil.

I've always had quite good service from T-Kom.
The delay is not always there with DSL, when they have free ports left it can be connected straight away. If they don't have any ports left, they have to wait for the equipment to arrive.
This is entirely normal - you can't expect them to install port equipment for every line, just in case the subscriber wants to have DSL. No business acts like this, or would you expect all car manufacturers to build a car personally for you, just in case you might want to buy one from them?
I recently had some connection problems. My provider blamed T-Kom, because "everything is okay here". I contacted T-Kom helpline at 22:30 on a Thursday, they checked the line from the computer, but couldn't find anything, and organised that a technician do a physical check the next day. He even phoned to hear what the problem was, and checked the line, then phoned back to say he hadn't found anything, but that if the problem persisted, they could swap my complete ISDN/DSL onto another port.
When the problem recurred 2 weeks later, I got onto the Helpline at 18:30 Friday evening, who again couldn't find a problem and left another ticket for the technician. On the following morning, I had a number of calls from various T-Kom instances, trying to find the problem. Everything checked out okay, but they still put my DSL connection onto another port, straight away, without charge. The ISDN had to wait until the Monday and, until that was done the DSL only ran at 1Mb/s. On the Monday, the technician phoned my mobile to say he was going to swap the connection, and that I would be without phone/DSL for about half an hour, and phoned again when he had finished.
Personally, I think people are spoiled today, and expect that what ever they want be provided immediately, which is just not feasible in many areas. Things like telefon and fast DSL are priveleges, not a right. Patience is a virtue.

That's what mine was doing.
Depending on your set-up, it could be your local network is crashed, especially if the problem is on more than one computer, or a virus, not just a bad connection. There is always the possibility that the connection from your exchange to the backbone is overloaded, but that is relatively rare unless you live in a more remote area.
Try resetting everything individually. Your computers, your DHCP host, and restart your DSL modem individually. That way you identify the culprit after problem clears. If you have a switch router, which is your DHCP host, you won't be able to tell if it was the switch, the router controller, or the modem which was the problem.
If the problem persists after you run everything up, then it is either a line problem (at T-Kom or your provider) or you may have caught something nasty on one or more computers, which is blocking the connection. If the transfer rate is high (you can usually ask a router what the status is, there are utilities to get this info when you just have a modem) but the page build-up is slow, then you probably have a virus loading your connection.
I use Online Eye Pro to check my transfer rate, you can download it
here.

This is a general problem at the moment all over the place.
Pages going up too slow. Probably an attack again on a DNS Server. Could also be that so many people are off work and using the internet too.

Probably the second, Bully, I don't have any problems here, except with one or 2 sites where I know they go slow when there are a lot of users online.
There again, there is slow and there is slow. When I had connection problems, the data rates were down around 3,5 kb/s and everything, including polling the email servers was choked, pings were taking 30-50
seconds. Even when there is a high load in the T-Kom line, the rate just goes down slightly, or you maybe have to wait a bit for a DNS reply.
This is a good site for a quick
check.
You can also try downloading some of the larger pics from
here. They have a lot of bandwidth, so the really big pics should give you max transfer rates.

I did have problems the other day with the build up of pages going very slow, even the britboard. Put it down to heavy use of the internet over the holiday period.. It worked normal again last night..

Speedmeter comes up straight away here.
The results of this would give a good clue to where the problem is. Try it again and let it do all the tests, then post the results here.
Did you just call up the entry page on the big pics link, or did you try opening one of the pics?
If you click on the top right hand thumnail, this takes you to another page, where you can choose pics in a variety of sizes. Try one of the images - large jpeg is a good bet. (tip: call up the status page on your router, or your DSL check utility before hand, then you can moniter the transfer rate while the pic is loading)
If you need a dialup service without signing up, try Arcor Internet by Call Basistarif :

As for the issue of slow speeds when online, I have had no problems recently. It is worth checking for spyware and trojans. For Windows users, Microsoft have an anti-spyware utility for free download at present.
