Lunch Break - Bakery Closed from 13:00 to 14:30

I've just been down to the bakery to get myself a roll for lunch, only to find that they're closed for lunch... from 13.00 until 14.30

Couldn't they just do what everyone else in the Western hemisphere does and stagger their lunch hours??? Would it really be so awful?

And I'm not even going to get into the fact that it probably would have been some dry, practically unedible roll anyway, so I'm better off without it... though my ham and lettuce look a bit silly sitting on the plate on their own

Usually in cities they are open all days. But a bakery in a small village do their main business in the morning with Brötchen and sweet stuff etc. and then again for "Kaffee" time, which means around 3 or 4pm here, when ppl buy cakes and sweet stuff

I know it probably makes total sense to them, it just annoyed me that I had to plan ahead and not just be able to go down and buy a roll when I wanted one.

But lunch is from 12-1. So they technically shut just after the lunch break...

No, you can only buy a roll when they want. And all the bakers collude so that nobody has an unfair advantage by opening at lunchtime.
