What's a Meldebestätigung? Proof of registration?

...to prove you live where you live?

Hi,

Any ideas about what a Meldebestätigung is? Apparently all German people should have one, I think it's a document to prove you live where you live. Should I have one also? I only ask because my bank just asked to see a copy of mine and I don't have one blink.gif

You have to be registered here, which means you have to go to the registration office (Kreisverwaltungsreferat) if you have not been registered in germany yet.
Otherwise you can just download the file from them.
There is a link here in the forum and it is handy as u can fill it in and post it and wait for the confirmation which they will send you by post, which can take a while.
You need that for very kind of contract in germany, togther with you "Aufenthaltsgenehmigung".

Hmmm.. I don't seem to have one, been to the KVR before, all they gave me was my Residence Permit and no Meldebestätigung. I probably forgot to go to another level in the KVR to queue for hours whilst standing on one leg or summut. Probably gonna be hit with a huge fine or summut now. Or shot. Probably the latter. unsure.gif

The KVR give you the generic permission to live in Germany (Aufenthalts -genehmigung or -erlaubnis) on a limited or unlimited basis. Your local (or Munich) Rathaus give you your Meldebstätigung i.e. registration of residence at your home. You are "obliged" to register your residence within 5 working days of moving into a residence where you at least plan to stay more than 3 months (including a hotel). This applies to Germans as well. You also need a similar regiatration if you have a second home (in Germany).

You need the Meldebestätigung for lots of other formalities, e.g. registering a car or getting a driving license.

Firing squad it is then... Ai! I am back!

Nah - I think a meldungbestaetigung is optional.

You probably have your "Anmeldungsformular" excuse the spelling.
This is where you fill out a form, stating what religion you are,
if you're married or not, and where you live. This then gets stamped at the
KVR, and you get back a partial copy with a stamp.
I think you need this to get your living permit, or Aufenhaltserlaubnis.

Sometimes - places don't trust the anmeldungsformular, as you could
have 'abmeld'ed - or de-registered, and still have your original form.
They want to know that you are STILL registered where you say you are.

(I've never seen this form, but I think it's something along the lines of
"As of this date Y, person X is still registered as being resident at the
following address... blah blah" )
This is all just circumstantial - so take with the appropriate grain of salt.

That's exactly what a Meldebestätigung is. The Wohnungsanmeldung is the original form of registration at a residence. The Anmeldung is usually good for a year or so, but thereafter you'll need the Meledebstätigung to confirm you are still registered there...

I believe you are right about the Anmeldung first, Aufenthaltserlaubnis second, stupid though it may seem (i.e. register your residence first, then get permsission to live here)

Exactly,
Move in first, register, then after 10 months or so you have to (I atleast have to) go back to the dreaded office at Poccisstrasse, or where ever, with a letter from your employer stating that you 'indeed did work' and therefore deserve to be registered for another year. I started in September and I got a letter last week saying I had to go back in the first couple of week of June and do this.

I swear, the hoops you have to jump through. Just smile.
