No, not some sort of weird musical genre, but a pub. Anyone been over to "Canadian Lounge" on Riesenfeldstr yet? I've heard mixed reports but haven't had a chance to check it out myself yet. Perhaps one for the Canuck contingent to check out

its just down the street from our office, i haven't been there yet, but some of the colleagues went for lunch last week and said it was okay...

there is a terrace/biergarten, but i can't see anyone sitting there, its right on one of the busiest streets in munich, the frankfurter ring...

i'll probs check it out myself on friday and report back...

Spudbury and I live in the area. So we called in for a couple of jars on Friday.

Despite being called Canadian Lounge...

  • ...it doesn't serve Canadian beer
  • ...it doesn't serve Canadian food
  • ...the staff are not Canadian
  • ...the decor is not Canadian (whatever that may be)
The only thing vaguely Canadian about it is the video projection which shows Canadian scenes such as grizzly bears playing on a river bank.

The food is pasta, gnocci, and schnitzel.

I asked the waitress, "why Canadian Lounge"? She said, "the owner once went to Canada".

At 7.30pm on a Friday the place was empty. Very much doubt that it's ever full.

All in all, not worth bothering with, IMHO.

Interesting review. I particularly like the "the owner once went to Canada" bit. Thanks for the feedback, I'll give it a miss so.

I guess the only words that could save this place are

"They have the hockey..."

I did intend to ask them if they'll be showing Canadian sports on the projector. Totally slipped my mind though. Sorry...

Yeah I went there last week with a canadian friend. I thought that they would a least have canadian beers. But no, nothing canadian about the whole place.
The place was empty (on a thurs. night), expensive and in the middle of nowhere. Also the "garden" is right on a main road.
I shan't be going back!

i think all us canadians should protest ...

geez, everybody wants to call themselves canadian nowadays!!!

...it doesn't serve Canadian beer
I should add that the barman said they had canadian beers on order.
Big C
When we asked, we weren't told that. Just that there were no canadian beers by a horrible waitress.
However later on we had a much nicer waiter, who was chatty and friendly.

When i was there 2 weeks ago i spoke to the owner, he said he was getting a canadian cook and that the menu would change. Other than that i had the worst mojhito cocktail that took the novice behind the bar about half an hour to concoct.

It reminds me of the bar from "Gute Zeite Shlecht Zeite" - only with less customers.

A Canadian cook? Hmm. For a while I was thinking about writing a Canadian cookbook, but decided against it as very little food can truly be described as Canadian. If your heritage is Greek, Greek food will seem Canadian to you. If your heritage is Ukrainian, Ukrainian food will seem Canadian to you, and so on and so on.

But here are some dishes that are usually consider Canadian:

Poutine
Butter Tarts
Nanaimo Bars
Flipper Pie
Sugar Pie
Saskatoon Pie (lots of pie recipes, eh?)
Fiddlehead soup
Roast _________ (Fill in the blank with moose, elk, grouse, grizzly bear or other favourite wild animal)
Oatcakes
Tourtiere
Pacific or Atlantic smoked salmon, depending on the coast of choice
Pemican
Bannock
Doughy anything with maple syrup.

Let me know if any of these show up on the menu.

For beer, probably only Labatt's and Molson will be available, if at all. Big Rock would be the one to get though. And if they manage to get a bottle of Screech in, well, I might just pop buy just to watch the locals try it.

Heh, didn't Dr. Demento constantly play a skit about Canadian Moose-Turd pie?
Malcolm Spudbury
When I asked, the barman reeled off a list of 3 or 4 beers that they were getting. Didn't recognise any of them.

Molson per chance?
