I'm pretty good with my computer, but this time I need a professional's help. My hard drive isn't being recognized by my PC, and I need to retrieve the data that I know is still on there. I have no idea what to look for in the phone book, considering there are about a billion computer shops in Berlin.

Help!

It won't be cheap. So unless the information is worth an awful lot to you (hundreds of Euros), I wouldn't bother. Here's an article in a foreign language about the subject.

If you pack it well, you can post the hard drive to us at Genesis Systems in Munich. The whole computer if necessary.

Or there's HD Computer - they seem to know their stuff.

Hi,
If you still need a place for computer repair, you could try this place (the above link). My husband's laptop needed work and no other place he found around where we live would do the work for less than a few hundred Euros. This place is in Wedding, but they have a flat price of 50 Euro repair fee, plus whatever is wrong with the computer, of course. My husband has been to this man twice with good results and not paying more than 120 Euros. I am guessing they don't speak English there, but you never know.
Good luck!

I'm looking to buy a PC rather than get one repaired. I'm looking for a smallish shop in Berlin with knowledgeable and friendly staff (I can dream, can't I?) Am not interested in anything 'saubillig', cathchy though the song is. I'd be grateful for any recommendations. Thanks!

@Snow White

I bought my PC from these guys. http://www.pcspezialist.de/stores/Bundesland3/index.html. They're fairly reputed and you should get good service too. And they certainly know more about computers than the guys at Media Markt/Saturn etc. Hope this helps.

I had a good experience with PCspezialist, too - the one in Spandau. They supplied a notebook with English XP.
