Thank you for sponsoring me in the Frankfurt Marathon

luke
Thank you to all you Britboarders who have sponsored me for the Frankfurt Marathon this coming Sunday. I've got a stinking cold and not sure how I'm going to get round.

If any of you would like to help us reach our GBP10k target, please visit My Webpage

Many thanks.

will keep my fingers crossed for you mate .. in the words of Brendan Foster, "start slow, and get slower!".

Let us know how you get on once you can move towards a PC.

Good luck, the weather is supposed to be fine so it should beat running in the rain. Rather you than me Luke, I get tired after driving 26 miles!!! biggrin.gif

Well, what a relief that that is over. It was absolute hell. I have had a stinking cold for over a week but ran anyway. Came out in a cold shivery sweat at 15km and felt awful. Never mind ... just another 27km to go! Plodded on jogging, walking through the pain. Had to get round though - someone had sponsored us £100 a mile. A couple of Red Bull's with about 8km to go livened me up a bit. Got home in 5hrs 20mins. And burst into tears at the finish line!!

We raised £12,800 for EB-sufferers. More than I ever imagined.

Well done Luke

Brilliant ... well done !!!

Congratulations - you survived your first marathon and what an amazing amount of money that you've raised.

Marathons are about getting round, surviving, keeping going when your body tells you to stop, keeping going when your head is telling you to stop. There are some good patches where it feels easy with the sun on your face and the wind at your back. There are some horrific patches where everything that can go against you does. But you keep going.

A metaphor for life

I'm hurting big time. Can hardly walk. My hip joints feel like someone has welded them tight. Got a blood blister on my right heel, and one of my toes on the left foot feels like it is just one big blister, although I can't see anything - but it hurts like hell.

Must say that the whole event was very well organised. Great crowds at the end even for the stragglers, like myself.

I have never been overtaken by so many old women in my life...

What more can I add, Luke... CONGRATULATIONS!

The Impossible Dream ... well done Luke. I can remember my first half-marathon about 15 years ago, when I was overtaken by the " walkers group " all going past with their strange gait. I just HAD to overtake them again to save-face, but it was a hell of an effort. Still doing my daily 5K's but ever so langsam, and completely shagged at the end of them.
Good luck, and well done Luke.
