Steak houses in Frankfurt

Where to get the best steaks

Right okay... Here's my task.
My bro comes over from the UK to visit me in FFM for the first time next week. Now the two of us have a kind of tradition that whenever we go for a trip away anywhere together we'll always go for a slap-up steak dinner. So i wanna find a good place for when he comes over but so far i haven't really come across many steak houses here. I've found one called churracco's but i've never been there to rate it, and i'm a big fan of the grill-your-own steaks in buena vista, but that's where my Frankfurt steak experiences end.

Can anyone help me out in the hunt for Frankfurt's Finest Fillet ?

The best steakhouse in Frankfurt is "The M Steakhouse" on Feuerbachstrasse in Bockenheim.

You have to reserve to be sure of a table, the number is 069 7103 4050.

EDIT - Sorry, I should have added "IMHO" The best steakhouse in Frankfurt is "The M Steakhouse" as I know some smart-Alec will argue with me tongue.gif

My 2002 edition of Frankfurt Geht Aus agrees with you! biggrin.gif

Ah...but that was 2002...things change smile.gif

The M looks good though, thanks for that one.

Okay...thickie question...What's german for Steak ? (i haven't been here long!!)
maaph
"Shtake" ..

if you like it rare (as I do - yum), ask for "English"
medium is "medium"
well done is shameful!!!

In my opinion www.buffalo-steakhaus.de

They do Argentinian steak...mmmmmmm
Number 10
Ahhhh...now your talking...the south americans certainly now how it's done...

The argentinian steak i had in amsterdam once still ranks as the best i've ever had...

Thanks everyone...The Buffalo looks favourite so far!!

M Steakhouse is No2 in the 2006 Frankfurt Geht Aus list of Steakhouses, just behind Surf n Turf on Grüneburgweg which is owned by the same people.

And I'm pretty sure the steaks are all imported from Argentina.
Jean-Pierre
The Surf 'n' Turf gets my vote too. Not cheap though. I was told the steaks are imported from the US which means they are full of antibiotics and steroids. So it'll get rid of your girlfriend's runny nose but she may become a bit hairy and get a deeper voice than you're used.

My vote is also for the buffalo steak house but I have not been to the others and to be honest I am not really a big steak eater (just in case Heddwen is reading tongue.gif )
Number 10
Right, at the moment i'm swinging firmly towards the buffalo...
the M looks a bit over priced, the Suft 'n' Turf...well quite frankly i just don't like the cheesy name, (and i don't want a hairy girlfriend huh.gif ).

Does anyone know if i'd need to book the buffalo...or is it just a pay-and-play situation? it'll be either a friday or saturday so i'm guessing booking would be wise...
Purple Muffin
The Buffalo is the one on Eschersheimer Landstr. isn't it? That is the one I am talking about just further up from the big cinema? That is the place I am talking about it. I went there once I think it was on a Friday night and as far as I remember we didn't book and had no problems.

Thinking now about the people I went there with though we must be talking about at least three years ago ohmy.gif so the place might have changed since then!
Jean-Pierre
A little tip for you to carry around for the rest of your life. Book! It doesn't cost anything (except the phone call), you're not committing yourself and it may stop your evening being screwed.

Buffalo is on

Kaiserhofstraße 18 - 20
60313 Frankfurt

Telefon & Fax : 069 - 285796

And yes it is worth booking as it get packed...just to mention I was there last night with wifey...mmmmm
Number 10
was the 'mmmmm' referring to the steak or yr wife smile.gif Either way thanks for that. Sounds like yr a bit of a regular. I'll let you know the verdict when we go next weekend.
Purple Muffin
Right ok then so the one I am talking about is neither of those two wacko.gif

I went to Maredo once, they seem to be in quite a few locations in Frankfurt. I wasn't too impressed tho.

I have never been to a steakhouse anywhere on this planet that matches Buffalo for it's meat.

The service is awful. Although if you tip them well, they'll treat you considerably better next time around.

The steaks are just amazing. My mother doesn't like steak, but now insists we go there every time she visits.
Number 10
well I can tolerate substandard service if the food's worth it.. let's face it the service anywhere here leaves a little to be desired anyhow.
Parasio
Since going there for over 18 months I have never had a problem with the service-although you have to understand this is a small establishment and they do get packed quickly so service may take longer than expected-longest I have waited is about 30mins...but when your drinking it goes quickly...

Must admit I do get on quite well with the Indian waiter they have here as he is the only one that speaks English...they also have menus in engliah so its easier...if you're nice he will also give you a jar of the sauce they serve at the table...for free!!!
Neil...
My taste buds are working overtime just reading this!
imhere4beer
Don't forget 12 Apostles... they do a lovely steak and it's a very nice atmosphere. Whatever you do, do not go to Maredo!! It's horrible.
Tommy
M Steahouse is usually the Number 1 but can be inconsistent--Fatatstic Wine list with prices to match.

Buffalo --Waldstrasse behind Central park is a more casual eatery with a fantastic Hot Sauce on the tables ---The Filet here is great --

You have to book the Buffalo as it can be solid------------

For 2 Bros on the sauce it has to be buffalo but as for the best M.(IMHO)

Have fun
Tommy

Is Mortons in the west-end still going. used to do excellent porterhouse and chateaubriand.

failing that, and a lot cheaper, buffalo is the place to go.
HamburgChris
Is Maredo British? We've got some steakhouses here in Hamburg that are British run, I thought it might have been Maredo...

Not important... smile.gif
Neil
yepp Maredo is British owned (Whitbread Brewers) ...I got an appology
letter from then after my last visit to one of their so-called restaurants
in München, when I told the waitress that my Garlic mushrooms were still
frozen in the middle ...she just stared at me as if I had grown another head
for a few secs and then carried on as if I hadn't said anything... a fantastic
dining experience dry.gif

Maredo's is rubbish...

Had rib-eye Argentinian beef steak (350g) at Buffalo for dinner just now, on account of the many recommendations here (thanks); It was truly succulently yummy. I think it was 19E with one side (baked potato).

There's another restaurant called Check-In, somewhere in Langen (I think it's a small airport for private planes), which serves superb steak too, about 25E with sides. They have a wonderful menu for kids at great prices.

Well i have to say the Buffalo didn't dissapoint!!!
The steak was outstanding, the steak sauce rock'd. I'll be going back in the very near future indeed.
The place has a really friendly atmosphere, and the jovial waiter that served us was a spitting image of Jimmy Greaves!! somehow that made the experience even better. We found that they didn't speak great english, but i never hold that against a restaurant - i'm the foreigner afterall!! and as my girlfriend speaks better german than most germans do anyway it was no hassles for us.
Parasio
Glad you like the experience shame you didnt get served by the Indian english spkeaking waiter! biggrin.gif

It's actually at Egelsbach Airfield (which incidentally is where I learnt to fly smile.gif ) and it's owned by a guy called Schuhbeck, who is apparantly a TV Chef. A German Ainsley Harriott I suppose "Ein bisschen Peter Pfeffer und etwas Susi Salz!". What's 'e like, eh??
