I would like to cordially invite any English speakers in the Hannover region to a club I have been running for the past few months.
I'm a British teacher of English. I started out just inviting my students of English, but I now have more English speakers coming than Germans - all welcome
We meet on the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month, at the "Jack the Rippers London Tavern". We drink, we usually play games, we socialise and, just sometimes have a winge and a good moan about life in Germany ( with sympathy from Germans).
Please come and chat - noone will ask you for any money and there are no forms to fill in! Just introduce yourself to the group speaking English loudly to the group to the right at the bottom of the stairs in Jack the Rippers ( usually there is a colonial Union Jack on the table to stake our territory but this is just for identification and Irish Nationals do not have to toast the Queen). It hasnt exactly happened yet, but I do plan to have exciting speakers invited to meetings, in the future.
Next meeting at: 17.00, Jack the Rippers London Tavern, Kropke, Hannover.
If you want more information please post here.

Greetings all,
Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm, er, actually not British, but *cough*American*cough*, but would like to beg and scrape and crawl for acceptance in the forum.
A few words about myself: Clinically insane, American (but that's redundant), lived in Hannover since '98, lived in Germany since '93, married to a German, with two small halfling-Germans between us. Terminally Anglophile as well, and I actually know how to make tea. I also speak German well enough to fool the aboriginals into thinking I'm one of them, which makes for some lively conversations.
As we are raising the aforementioned halfling Germans bilingually (they have to get some culture, you know), we would like them to be exposed to lots and lots of English. Unfortunately, their only source at present is yours truly. Not surprisingly, our not-quite-two son has taken to trying to teach his poor Daddy German. (He seems to think I'm coming along fine, I am pleased to report.)
Anyway, greetings and best wishes from Hannover, and we're really sorry about that revolution bit, nothing personal.
Cheers,
Fairfax71

Hi Fairfax71,
As another not quite Brit, welcome to the forum! They are pretty good bunch here and don't seem to mind us "colonials" at all.

My hubby? Sorry, wrong gender and/or persuasion.
But no, neither of us play tennis. In fact neither my wife nor I are really into sports much, though I do like (American) football and some baseball. Haven't watched either in ages, though.

I happen to know that there is -- our upstairs neighbor is one as well.

Other than him, though, I don't know any other Americans in Hannover, though I do know a couple Brits in Hannover and one other Brit in the greater Hannover region.
For what it's worth, there is a monthly English-language meetup known as SpeakEasy that meets on the last Monday at the Bayrische Botschaft on Thielenplatz (at 7:30 pm IIRC). It's mostly non-native speakers from all over the world, with a few Aussies, Kiwis, Brits and such, but it is a place to speak English for once. Only been there once so far myself, though. Missed it last month because of a business trip.
Cheers,

Hi,
I like Hannover! At least it´s not Stuttgart, I used to live there. It´s also quieter than my hometown (London), which I don´t mind either. I like living in the Nordstadt, there are a couple of decent pubs. I don´t feel the need to go to Jack the Ripper´s (Kropcke) every evening . By the way we´re also a "mixed marriage", although my wife´s not from here, but from southern Germany.
I don´t really know any other native speakers in or around H, except for an irish bloke in Garbsen.

Yes, he hasn´t posted for a while. Maybe we should just give it a try this Friday, which will be the first of the month. 5pm - presumably because it gets busy later. On Saturday night it certainly was, we (me and my wife) wanted to drink a beer after seeing a comedy show in the Expo Café and you couldn´t move!

I´ve jus seen a a private message for you (as I was looking in the Gallery, strangely enough!) from EditorBob saying your pm is now activated. It seems you have to wait a bit as a newcomer.
I´ll give it a try now. See you.

I would like to go to Jack The Ripper on Fridays, but I'm working at the university every Friday until 6:00. When do people usually leave? If everyone meets at five, I can't imagine anyone being there by the time I can get there.
It would also be nice if you'd reply in the thread, in case PMs don't work for new members.

Hi Phillip,
we were there two weeks ago and discovered that there isn´t actually an organised meeting in Jack the Rippers anymore. However, me and Bulli had a drink and a chat anyway. We also met up again in the Nordstadt last week. Do you know the Paulaner on Thielenplatz? It´s near the Hauptbahnhof. Speakeasy takes place there on the last Monday in the month. The next meet-up is on the 27th November, at 7pm It´s a meeting of english speakers and people whowant to speak english. We haven´t been there yet, but were thinking of checking it out. It might be a good place to meet if you´re interested and can make it.

Hello Phillip,
As Willum says, there was no sign of the JTR club a couple of weeks ago, I guess it stopped, but there are others;
I will check out the hannover4englishspeakers next Tuesday 21st at Henry's American Bar and Restaurant,
from 6:30 till 10
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hannover4englishspeakers/And the Speak Easy one the week after on the 27th
http://de.groups.yahoo.com/group/speak_easy/I haven't been to either before, but they definately still run.
But this forum has by far most activity, I am new to it too & unfortunately not many of us are Hannover based so welcome

!
Willum & I might meet in Gaststätte Plümecke (Vostraße 39) next Thursday, if you want to come and try their currywurst, it is a goodly place.
Will keep posting on here, the PM's were just to exchange emails etc

Yes, we´re only a two man outfit at the moment, but as the song goes "the only way is up". It would be great if a few more "Hannoveraner" joined.

(Not the horses!

, hope that isn´t too obscure)

A bit late but,
I am meeting Willum in Kaisers at 7pm tonight for some fish n chips if anyone wants to come along (never say die!)
http://gaststaette-kaiser.de/index/cheesy music or what!

Also, the Hannover4Englishspeakers was great fun, mostly native speakers
The speakeasy was also good, more non-native speakers learning english or non-native english speakers.
Both are still very active.

At last!

I didn´t get that with the music at Kaisers, but never mind. Like Bulli said, you´re welcome to come along. So we don´t have the feeling that this is only a two horse town!
