Can you get them here? Or are they frowned upon? Although I can't understand why sending your leftovers back out where they came from instead of into a plastic bag should be frowned upon.

There was a thread about this ages ago. I think there is some bye-law or other which prohibits their use or sale in DE. Whoever was asking imported a unit from the UK, if memory serves.

There has also been talk on Toytown Munich website about the same topic.
Adi
B&Q have them.

So does this place.

And these guys.

...and, funnily enough, AEG make them.
jg.
You can buy them in Germany from these guys:-

There is a document discussing the legal ins and outs in their "Downloads" area.

Some shops sell them on German ebay too.

cool ... i'm going to order one. fed up with stinky bins.

I have one!
Can't recommend it highly enough - no more disgusting maggoty biotonne for me biggrin.gif

I was worried about the law here and decided to get mine in the uk and just not mention to anyone here, which has worked fine so far. Husband and mate installed it for me, and have had no problems at all with it.

Was actually looking at kitchens the other day in a posh kitchen shop and they had them for sale, so I guess it is allowed.

Interestingly enough though, whenever the topic comes up with most Germans I know, they all think it's disgusting and Umweltunfreundlich blink.gif

Out of curiosity what happens to the food leftovers that get chucked into the Restmüll? Probably spend the next few years rotting in a old supermarkt carrier bag in a landfill. Or do they separate the remains of my spag bol?

what I'm surprised at is no one has a trash compactor, that to me is even more valuable, our old place had a little tiny bin which cost me 10 or 20 Euros an empting, and it only took a week to fill, resorted to driving my garbage around to get rid of, a trash compactor I could have put it out once a month it would have paid for its self.

Currently where I live I have 3 1000l containers for garbage so I really don't care. Plus for bulkey stuff the "Resthof" garbage dump is open 3 days a week including Saturdays biggrin.gif , and for a small fee 2€ usually they take everything.

Any links to that sort of thing here?
Is it legal to put compacted rubbish in a normal bin?
How big are they/where do you put it?
how much electricity do they use?

any info appreciated.

thx.

The people at www.speiseabfallentsorger.de sell them too - Abfallpressen. Quite pricey though.

Thanks Luke, looks like I am going to have to work out how many years it will take to amortize one of those to see if it is worth it.
The delivery alone was about 80€!

Found one at trashmaster on offer for about 1100€

Do these things grind up bones too? smile.gif

only ones from chickens aparently. They are probably aware of the other use they could be put to if not.

Reminds me of a murderer I read about who was only cuaght when people nearby/in the same house started complaing about the smell from the drains.
