I just posted a fairly large image US State Mottos, but using a direct IMG link.
The board didn't make a 'click to enlarge' thumbnail image.
I never thought about that before but, does the board software never make thumbnails for direct IMG links?
Without making some trial and error attempts, what are the limits of an image post when you upload files, before it gets shown in reduced 'thumbnail' size?

Thumbnails are not created for externally linked images - only for uploaded images.
Thumbnails are created for images larger than 450x600.
