Has anyone ever had to fly from Frankfurt to London without booking in advance , on the same day. I was wondering if I had to fly home what sort of prices and availability would I be looking at, if I was to arrive in the morning wanting to fly a.s.a.p . Has anyone had to do this before and was it easy to get a flight.

Depends what day of the week it would be. If that was a Monday morning, it might cost you your life savings as the flights would be full - weekly commute etc.

However, if you needed to go on a Saturday morning, it would probably be doable for 150 euros or so.

Why not go tot he lufthansa / ba websites and just try it out

I went to the airport and booked a flight the night before once. I think it was about 200€. This might have been a bargain though I cannot remember. Also I didn't use the return as was driving back.

depends aswell if you really need to fly from frankfurt. how about trying hahn ??

Its sometimes alot cheaper to go to the smaller airports and fly cheapy cheapy.
But it also depends where you you want to go to in the UK.

If the company is paying: WHO CARES ??

you can book online with opodo upto 3 hours before the flight leaves. you will get an e-ticket so no worries about having to get the actual ticket. opodo will tell you the cheapest fares and times available.

the price will depend on how full/empty the plane is. The good thing is that there are lots of flights to london (lhr, lgw, lcy) and there is normally space somewhere. recently LCY has been coming in very cheap. 113 euro total return. 10 euro booking fee, 88 euro taxes and 15 euro for the actual ticket !!

probably shouldnt have mentioned that :-(

for example. it is to late for tonight, but tomorrow morning at 7.25 you could get a flight with BA for 203 euro.

You could try all the websites to get a feel for the prices 2 days in advance to begin with. Same day or even next day bookings are only possible by phone or at the airport, not online - my experience. You have to have a Saturday to Sunday in there somewhere to qualify for most cheap and cheaper flights, as most of us have found out when it was inconvenient. Without the weekend, prices rocket as high as EUR 1200+ as the airlines want to target business travellers. It depends on where you are as to which airline is cheaper or suitable. Occasionally you might get lucky with KLM, change at Amsterdam. Air France might be useful in an emergency, change at Charles de Gaull (the worst airport I have ever been to).

Cheap airlines appear to get more expensive, the closer you get to the date you want to fly. I recently had two situations where I had to find out quickly how to get back to the UK, but both times the emergency was over quickly and I did not fly. It certainly made me think of how I could get back quickly if my family needed me!

You might find www.flug.de useful, but they don't include German Wings, Buzz, Ryan Air and maybe not DBA. To find out which airlines fly to your destination, visit the website, for example: www.baa.com.

Now that is a typical comment. You should treat your firm as if you own it, it is paying your rent...

not surprising so many firms go bankrupt

of course, you never buy a one way ticket. always get a return even if you dont intend using it. always choose a nice quiet time mid-week for the return not to be used part. if the price seems high then chnage the week and see if it makes a difference as a messe can play havoc with prices.

Heres a trick.

I've spent the last couple of days stressing about the cost of getting back to Northern Ireland via Edinburgh for a week - fly Luftwaffe to Edinburgh, Easyjet back on home. Perfect. Apart from the cost. A mere €240 for the return flight to Edinburgh.

Simple solution to getting a lower price from Lufthansa? Merely change your country of residence to anywhere that is not Germany - price now? 111 pounds.

I love this country. Not only does it hate itself, it overcharges itself too!
