Getting fit in the Bonn / Cologne area

Anyone here for football or squash etc.?
Pages: 1, 2
Nick
Since coming to Germany 2 years ago I have taken advantage of the fantastic beers, huge sausages and cheap wine. It's now dawned on me that I am turning into a bit of a lard-arse and I am serious need of some exercise.

I was wondering if there was anyone in the Koln to Bonn area that is interested in taking up a new sport.

I really dont mind what the sport is, I just need to get fit again. :$

Are you a football player Nick? There is the Colshies football team in Köln which is made up of expats and is always on the lookout for players.

Egg Chaser is one of the driving forces behind the recently formed Köln Extreme Cricket Club if you fancy that.

I would be up for a bit of squash .. providing of course that my knees are up to it. Normally only play between November and April ..
Nick
Squash would be great - I used to play before coming here and would love to get back into it again.

I would also be interested in football - although I have to warn you, Im really crap at it biggrin.gif
haptiK
hey, whats the situation with the football in köln? I wouldnt mind giving it a go... im probably more crap then Nick though... although i used to play it quite a bit.

ive never played squash... i wouldnt mind trying it... im up for anything smile.gif
Nick
Football sounds good to me - I will do some research and see what sort of prices we are looking at. I guess we will need a few more to play with though, two crap footballers playing against each other wont improve our game at all :-)

So, who is up for 5 a-side footy in Koln??

(am still up for Squash if anyone fancies a game)
Englishmanincologne
Id be well up for foootie, although am also out of shape...the only sport I have done in the last 4 years in bar billiards ! cool.gif
Nick
Ok, so we have 3 out of the 10 needed for 5 a side...Come on, any more takers??
Cota
I'm due to be in Cologne from 28th November onwards for a new job. I'd be up for 5-a-side.
haptiK
we need to find a place to play.
Cota
Are there any 5-a-side leagues in Cologne? that way we would only need say 6 players, possiblity 7 max, and would have somewhere to play.
medicine man
you just got another player. I'm a highly committed individual (apart from on tuesdays and thursdays as I go to German lessons) with low fitness too. Sounds like we'll be able to grind down teams wink.gif
haptiK
we still need to find a place to play... we could do something else in the interim while we look for people to play footie with... i dont have any footie gear either nor can i afford it right now

edit: something else besides football i mean...
jm_melbourne
Hey, I am in Cologne on extended holidays and am looking to do something with my time. What do you mean by football exactly (rugby, soccer, australian, american...)?

It doesnt make a huge difference to me as I am terrible at all of them but willing to give them a go!
Nick
will do some research this weekend and find some suitable activities in the Cologne / Bonn region. Watch this space!
haptiK
watching!
medicine man
this died a death...anyone still want to organise i game in the new year?
Nick
sorry - have been on business travel the last few weeks so havent got around to investigating - i am very interested still - if anyone has any ideas on where we can play then lets schedule something. Im free pretty much all next week

Anyone up for some American football - two hand or flag football? Hell, I can also be talked into some tackle, unless any of you fellows are 6'2'', 200 plus and runs a 40 under 4.5.

Also, would love to get a bunch of guys together for regular basketball games.

Please let me know if anyone's interested.

have found a decent squash club in cologne and have been a few times now with a fellow Toytowner - anyone else fancy regular games?
PrinceOfDenmark
Not really up for playing squash, but certainly wouldn't mind a game of badminton if anyone is interested.

Do you mean Sportcenter Kautz?
I might be up for this, though I haven't set foot on a court for a decade or so.
Perhaps we can start a TT ladder cool.gif
Englishmanincologne
I would be up for badminton, have my own racket/indoor shoes etc...

Hi all,

I've been in Cologne for over a year and a half and I'm getting fat. Ok, early thirties and less-than-healthy lifestyle and I'm starting to notice the change - as is my girlfriend wink.gif
Enough is enough! In England I used to play a bit of footy on Brighton beach, tennis with my mates and tried my hand at various other fat-burning activities tongue.gif I play for an Alte Herren team near Langenfeld, but to be honest, there are too many moaning bastards and it's taking its toll. So basically I'm looking to get back into some sport where I can be a bit competitive (but not having to win), have some bloody fun, get in better shape and if possible, not have to pay too much! (plus of course getting to know interesting people). I've played footy - yes that's the version with feet and a ball unless you're a keeper or Argentinian wink.gif - hockey, tennis and all the other usual ball sports to a 'normal' standard. (That means 'able to make a competitive game but never gonna be the champ ). Anybody, anywhere think they can make use of me? Or know where I can find like-minded individuals/groups? Did that footy team/5-a-side footy team ever take off? And what's the extreme cricket all about? Not lots of squash experience and no racket but could be interesting - depending on cost. Jogging just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid... please advise :-)

Yes, after 3 months without regular sports, i`m feeling a bit lardy arsed myself.
I am also interested in setting up a 5-a-side soccer / drinking team in the Bonn area. Also interested in any other sport if there is some other suggestions out there. I can probably arrange practice in the Bad Godesberg area.

Any takers ?

Philip
brightondan
Good to hear I'm not the only one! I'm sure there are people out there doing things already - I feel it in my bones! Having been commuting to Langenfeld for football for the past year though, I would prefer to have something in Cologne. Sorry Philip sad.gif

Deegee
philip_irving
Cologne is also fine with me.

my Alfa works most of the time !
maco0018
American football where? I am all for it! Basketball too! Message me if you need another player!
maco0018
Lol, I just realize the person I read the comment of responded a while ago, but any American football or Basketball I am interested in! Unfortunately, I am one of the worst soccer players alive sad.gif
medicine man
the team never took off but i'm still getting fatter it needed someone to organise something. So we have three again now, any of u that posted before still getting fatter? We need 8 lets say and we can at least have a kick around in some park unofficially first.
aspiadas
Going back to the five aside (not interested in that American Football rubbish tongue.gif ) There is a place where I used to play in Cologne off of the aachener Landstrasse in Weiden. I think the place could be run by an english guy.. I will try and find out the name. I maybe interested in playing too..
aspiadas
So the place is called Clark`s Family Sportpark - Kronstädter Str in Weiden Cologne... If anyone is interested in setting up a five a side session in Cologne then we could do a lot worse than this place... it has pretty good facilities...
Alfisti
I am certainly interested, how many people do we have so far then ?
brightondan
hi. using mobile to write this as away for a week so excuse any dodgy work/punctuation ;-) - count me in! back next friday and am up for the hall thing if not too pricey. also informal kickabout sounds great too!

Brightondan
Alfisti
So that would be so far:

Brightondan
Alfisti
Aspiadas
Medicine Man
Maco0018

I think we need at least 3 more interested lads / lasses.
Who else can we add to the list ?

Alfisti
brightondan
Great! Do they need to be 'Muttersprachler'?? unsure.gif

I`m up for footy , although seriously out of shape. Also game for tennis or table tennis. Becoming uncomfortably larger around the middle.

@cchagall7

I heard a vicious rumour that you are also doing a bit of rowing, if so which club and how is it?
medicine man

brightondan
Getting exciting!! I'm losing weight just thinking of it biggrin.gif
I'm happy to help organise things as well.

Hi Con,

We're gonna do this footy thing, I can feel it in my bones (and probably more than that after!)

I'm up for tennis too - do you have options (as in, played here before and know somewhere reasonable to play)?

Brightondan
Tangled
I'm on for a bit of footy!
BUT.... my work will take me away from Cologne sometimes during the week (almost always Tuesday and wednesday evenings). I'll certainly play when im here, though. Should be around 1 week in 2, if its on a Thursday...
cchagall7
Prince, what's rowing? Don't know where that came from, chum. Had the odd row in my time but not recently, but I'm sure you mean rowing ie propelling a boat along using oars, which I've only ever done sporadically whilst chilling out on a nice lake in the sun etc. Now there's an idea. Vicious rumours indeed.

Brightondan, I will ask around about tennis courts, but I haven't played tennis as yet in Köln. Will keep you posted if I find something out.
PrinceOfDenmark
Somebody got the wrong end of the oar there then.

re tennis courts, I think there might be some around the Bolternsternstrasse/Rhienufer area, as I'm sure I've seen an advert somewhere for an open day, but it's Friday and my brain is completely dead so afraid I can't remember any details.

A thirsday night would be good for me.
brightondan
Thursday could be good for me too BUT I generally work till 7 in Leverkusen. So 7.30 onwards would be ideal. I'm also free other evenings too.

Thanks a lot for that - I'll check it out. I've seen plenty, just not sure if you have to be members. Like the idea of just turning up and playing - not sure if that's possible here!

PGTip
I'm interested. Haven't played casual footy since coming to Germany a couple of years ago. Prefer weekend or lateish evening during the week
aspiadas
I guess if we only have eight guys we could still have a fair kick around in a sports hall... Shall I book a place for a Thursday night - say around 20:00 ?
