I am sick of of following a link and getting lost in the internet and loosing my place in TT. Add a target="_blank" to the links. It would be most helpfull.
ps. And dont tell me to RMOUSE --> Open in New window cause thats a stupid idea.
Use a browser with tab support. I cant believe people still use IE. I couldnt imagine surfing the net without tabs now. You can configure
firefox for example to automatically open a new active tab for links that take you offsite.

I use IE for work and its the only Browser in the world that allows me to Windows Authenitcation with an IIS Server. I also develop for the Browser as it takes up 72.6% of the market.

Ugh, no target="_blank", please. Nothing is more annoying that 5 or 10 new windows. TT is still there in your History.

@InflatableWoman
Use
Crazy Browser. It's basically a shell around IE with tabs and pop up blocking - I think it should still do the secret handshake thingy with IIS.
It's free too, and only a 700K download.

Moz & FF have had
NTLM auth on Win for a while now (and
cross-platform support more recently), is that what you mean?

I am not willing to change my browser... I just want target="_blank".

If the admin cant be arsed/is not willing to do it, then thats fine. This is just a request.

No it's better not to have it enforced. You can right click and open new window without any stress or finger damage at all. Why do you see that as a problem, or "a stupid idea"? I would prefer to have the choice as to whether I want something in a new window or not.

You are not violating any divine rules and commandments by having more than one browser.
Firefox rules.

Use
http://www.maxthon.com/ as it is also a shell based around Windows Explorer so you get all the usual stuff for security and banking etc but tabbed windows. Its also quicker than Firefox to load pages and images 'cos it is based on the Windows core code.
I could not survive without Maxthon now. Using IE alone drives me crackers without tabbed windows.

I installed firefox last night. I set the Tabbed Browsing option to " a new tab in the most recent window" and before that "the most recent tab/window". In both cases I tested by opening several websites and they all open in the same window but I see no tabs. What am I doing wrong? My understanding was, if I open four websites I will see four tabs on top within the same window. Correct? Help appreciated. Thanks

I would like to see hotlinks clicked, opening in a new window. That way we can continue to browse the TT boards after going off on a wander around a different part of the intraweb prompted by the original message.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Right-click, "Open in new window" or "Open in new tab"
Personally I prefer links not to automatically open in a new window.

Ctrl-click on Firefox. Window opens in a new background tab.

& for Mac users, clicking down on the central mouse wheel in Safari opens the link in a new tab

The central mouse wheel click also works for Firefox!

Ctrl-click and the central mouse click both work for the new Internet Explorer, as well

Is it just me or does anybody else get really annoyed by the fact that if you click on a web link in a post, the website opens up in the same window as Toytown? I often get engrossed in the website which has been posted and invariably click on other things and get led to other sites or start pissing about for ages and then when I decide that its time to go back Toytown I can't get back to exactly where I was unless I click the back button a billion times or open Toytown up again and spend ages finding where I was in the first place.
Or maybe I'm a twat and I'm doing something wrong!

If you're using a PC, just do right-click and "Open in new window". I find links which automatically open a new window are more annoying. I prefer to make the choice of a new window or a new tab myself.

He he - so basically, your answer to the above is 'yes, you are just a twat'
Thanks a lot Keydeck - I could kiss you. This has been bugging me for such a long time and I do feel like a slight dick now that I know the answer was so simple, but you have completely enriched my Toytown experience with your quick answer
