Young English-speaking dads in Hamburg

Who's here and wants to meet up?
Mark-bb
Hi, I would be interested in meeting any UK Ex-pats (also anyone who can appreciate the good UK sense of humour) living in Hamburg who now find themselves being a dad . I have a young son who is now growing up as german/english and would appreciate help in keeping the british side alive and kicking before it is too late biggrin.gif Cheers, Mark

Hello, fellows,

I am not a "Brit" (but speak some sort of English, as an American). If you are not totally disinclined, I would recommend that you check out the English-speaking Christian church congregations in your areas. In Hamburg, there are Anglican, (United) Methodist, and Baptist options, among others. Each of these congregations does its best to find a place for children in Sunday school and other activities, and would provide contacts with other folks with English-only or English/German-speaking kids of various ages.

Please contact me if you wish, or check out the web site I maintain at unitedmethodist.de.

In addition to contact information and links to other Methodist churches, you will also find links to pages of other denominations and ecumenically oriented churches worhsiping in English.

Our own congregation in Hamburg also has the following web site: Hamburg's International United Methodist Church.

Perhaps we'll meet at church?

Hello!

My hubby is part of a group called "STUDS" (spouse trailing under detress sucessfully).

It part of a worldwide group specifically for men. Most men are either retired or are the "house husband" with children.

We have a group in Frankfurt which meets every two weeks.

All Americans/Canadian/Brits.

So should you want more details, PM me or my hubby (Tim Hortons Man).

Thanks!

I created a Church Page on my website in 2001. You should find most of the churches with English language services in the Hamburg area there: www.englishpages.de

If there are any missing, please let me know. Events can also be included.

Please note, the website is there for all English speakers in northern Germany, not just Brits.

You'll also find details about a new Playgroup for English speaking children there, on the Education Page.

This was included in my Hamburg Newsletter today...

KinderKinder Festival - 18th September - 20th November 2005
Autumn in Hamburg brings a series of concerts, theatrical and other cultural events aimed at children and families. The KinderKinder festival takes places at venues around town, including leading spots like the Deutsches Schauspielhaus and the Kampnagel cultural centre. Last year's festival included Japanese puppet theatre Kasa-Jizo, music workshops with Belgian performers Radio Ping Pong and Lille Spiir from Denmark. Full details of this year's line-up are released on the KinderKinder website from the start of August.

Part of the website is in English.

Mark,

I’m an Aussie living in Hamburg (Barmbek), and we have recently had a baby girl who’s now 3 ½ months old. And I’m also always up for a cold beer…

(My wife is not German either; we’re here with me having a 5-year work permit/Greencard.)

We’re now just going through the notions of our daughters requirements to stay in Germany. Until she’s 6 months old all is fine but after that she needs all the correct documentation. We’ve now got her ‘Australian Citizenship’ and we head back to Berlin on Tuesday to apply for her ‘Australian Passport’, which is still the easy bit…

Then it’s off to the German immigration office where we will be bound to sit around for a whole day only to be told to come back tomorrow with an appointment time. (When we lived near the Tierpark it was much easier.)

It all gets rather expensive, the ICE to Berlin with a Bahncard25 is still Euro137 for two people and then factor in the hotel accommodation.

Dads and Mums, An old thread but if you dads and mums are still looking, I have a nearly three year-old boy who is suffering hideous loneliness with dad. Are there any baby groups under way? We live north on the border of HH and Schleswig, Ammersbek. I have transport but need to keep the distance reasonable. Cheers.
