Hello

Does anybody have any recommendations for taking out car insurance here? I have 11 years no claims discount from the UK. Direct Line (Germany) quoted me a price, then a week later increased it by 120 euros becuase my no claims discount was british!!!

try Kim Marcum she got us a super price on our car insurance. She also speaks very good English. I'm in the process of switching over all my policies to her. Car Legal third party etc.

The system here works on a percentage anywhere from 200% for a young driver to 25% for an experienced one. You should ask what the % is. I don't have the paper work handy so I can't give you the exact term.

When we first applied for car insurance they accepted a letter (hand written on letter head) stating we had 7 years no claims in Canada. got something like 40%. (in other words very good rate).

I've been with Axa for years now. They allowed me to transfer my no claims from the UK and protect my no claims bonus.

I recently bought a car and ended up insuring it through Deutsche Herold. I really did this out of convenience. They were recommended also by, was it Northern Lass? Anyway, they weren't the cheapest (I think I had a look at Cosmos they were cheaper) but I was able to do it all "vorort". I went to the ADAC and for years they have had a choice of several insurers but they've given them all the chop except Deutsche Herold. However, when you read the documentation turns out Kravag has something to do with them too.

It's a long time ago now, but when I changed over to German insurance all the insurance companies (typical German "silent" cartell) would only recognise 5 years of my no-claims bonus. Things may have changed (improved through more competition, perhaps?) since then.
