Horse racing in Germany

Opinions on how it compares to the UK

Has anyone been to the horses in Germany? I'm probably going to make my first visit to a German course at Frankfurt on Sunday - just wanting to get an idea of what it's like compared to the UK. Are there bookies there or is it a Tote only system?

I try to go once a year, but not really as a "profi". I never went in UK.

In Cologne they have a ticket like the national lottery. You can choose winner, place, twin (2 in the top 3), accumulation... all sorts of stuff. The form is quite easy to understand, and if (unlike me) you have some experience, you should have no problem.

The main problem is that all races are rigged. The first race I always (!) get something out of it. The remaining races are also rigged, but always against my bets.

Errrmmm, what gives you the idea that races are rigged? Your inability to pick the winner or some other reasons? Maybe you were just joking?

witchypoo was a professional stable-lass and an amateur jockey for a few years. She doesn't think there is too much scope to rig races in Germany. She thinks the brits are better at that sort of thing!

Perhaps you could enlighten us further as to how you think races are rigged?!

Usually at the German race courses it's tote betting, but there should be some bookies there too - but without the rather caustic John McCririck and all that tick-tack malarky!
