i need a few tips regards Uk tv here!
am in neuss - nr Cologne, and apart from internet - not quite sure where to go from here. husband also not helping things!
have read all re dish size, position, box and cards - just where to go... any tips apart from just via internet?? or buying all in gb and finding it doesnt work!
thanks!
How much do you think you can do yourself? Eg: position and fixing the dish, etc.?
Buying the stuff is the easier part (you just have to part with some money). Setting-up is not difficult but can be time-consuming and require some materials/tools.
If you want to buy a box with FTV card you can try:
- EBay. Risk there is higher.
- Britboard. If anyone is leaving the country when you need the equipment.
- Online shops selling equipment only. Low to medium risk and best option, if you can install yourself.
- Online shops selling equipment plus installation service. Lowest risk but consequently (very) high cost.

Well, for a start you need to find out if you can put the dish up in a spot that has a clear view to the ASTRA Satellites.
Then you need a digibox.
Dish and lnb can be bought here in Germany from any shop ( Media Markt )
And the rest depends on how good you are at looking for the satellite. Pot luck without a satfinder.
But it is possible !!! I used the signal strength and quality meter in the digibox !!
My first flat was BBC'd up that way.
But the dish I have got now, was set up professionally, as it is on the roof !!

hellsbells,
Kabel Deutschland announced today that they are starting their english package from 01/09/05
http://www.kabeldeutschland.de/kabeldigita...alinternationalhttp://www.Infosat.lu says the sub will be 9 euro, which would reduce to 4 euro if you subscribe to Kabel Digital "home" (the german package, I take it).
AFAIK KD serves the Neuss area.

Well i think i would still rather get a digibox than cable. Depends if your house has cable tv too, mine does not. If you get cable installed does in not cost lots of pennies?

I have just recently moved to Germany(Cologne) with my Family I have two children one aged 4 the other 7 who are both settling in very well. I am however missing the old TV and would appreciate some advice on recieving English channels.
I have read a couple of conversations on this forum about how to go about this and I have even explored the local Media Marke to see what is available. I would Like the answers to these questions.
What is the best Digi Box to get( not the most expensive)
What stations would I expect to recieve on a basic setup( I only really want BBC ITV 4 and 5)
What is the basic cost of installation
Will I need some sort of subscription or card
OK thats enough to be going on with, I am however a keen DIYer and will have lots of questions later regarding Plumbing, Electrics, timber merchants and that sort of thing. Anyone in the area are welcome to get in touch via this forum and give me as much advise as possible.
Cheers all Ange

I think you should get a sky digibox with a free sky card from a special dealer, then a sat dish which for Cologne shouldn't need to be very big and that's it.

I know but they explain everything in detail and you can always get the box with them and if you want the full monty the sky card.
For freesat cards one of the hundreds of sites where they sell them is:
FREESAT
