Anyone fancy getting together for a few glasses of vino? I know Yamyam is a connisseur of fine wine and I'm sure he would be more than willing to bring his expertise along and inform us of the nuances of a young Trollinger
might be a laugh if the weather stays nice??

Definitely up for it, Nicole, but September 3rd isn't ideal cos England are playing Wales that day. How's about the 10th?
Loopy
Aug 9 2005, 10:27 am
Think I could manage one or two... purely for cultural reasons of course... my palate needs familarising with German plonk.
Should think yamyam will need me more than one or two glasses when he gets back

Definately up for a few vino´s!
10th would probably be better for me - have requested that weekend off work anyway in Sept - won´t know if I´m free tho til end of Aug when I get my Dienstplan - its an arse innit!?
I´ll just try and slot myself in with what dates you all decide!

@Clairey: Bad news for you I'm afraid -- they won't be serving drinks in anything over 0.25-litre glasses, so it looks like you'll have to bring your own 1-litre

3 p.m.? Same meeting point as last time? Or are people wanting to make it more of an evening affair this time...? Only if anybody wants to bring their kids, the afternoon would be more appropriate. What do folks think?

@JDee, bad planning or what!
wine is supposed to be ok after beer, it's the other way round that is supposed to cause problems!
First beer then wine is fine - a German proverb, apparently

Seeing as most people will probably be arriving in Stuttgart at the Hauptbahnhof, I'd suggest meeting again at 3 p.m. at the bottom of the escalators at the bottom of Königstraße again. After the last time, it became apparent that it could be slightly confusing as to exactly which escalators are meant, so imagine you're standing on the Königstraße (big pedestrianised street full of shops), looking down it towards the Hauptbahnhof; right in front of you before the main road is a wide entrance going downwards with some wide steps going down on the left side, and two escalators (one up, one down) on the right side. The meeting place last time was at the bottom of these escalators.

Yamster will you be wearing your tweed suit and monocle to the wine fest???
I have to add that I don't particularly care for German wine, so if someone can recommend a very dry red then I'd appreciate it. That sweet white stuff takes the enamel off your teeth
Hi, just recently discovered this board.
I'm from Canada, and I've been living in Stuttgart for 5 years now.
It's always nice to meet some new people, and other native English speakers aren't always that easy to find!

Can I come along to the next meet-up?
cheers,
Ana

I'm with you on that Nicole, not much of a white wine drinker but can drink the red stuff till the cows come home
I'm not sure if there is much to choose from as far as German red wine goes... when I was living in Tübingen the only local one I found was a Trollinger and I think they are a bit hit and miss so I am open to suggestions as well...
@Ana, welcome on board - see you on Saturday
