Why can't we use the quote function anymore?

Why can't we use the quote function anymore?

It was being mis-used.

There is absolutely no need to quote an entire post if the post being quoted is in the thread immediately above the current post.

See this very post for an example. Why did I need to quote your post when writing this one? I didn't.

You can still quote. There is a quote button on the post page. Copy the text you want to quote. Press "quote", paste the text, press quote again, and Bob's yer uncle, a quoted post.

But please do not use this feature excessively.

During scientific trials at the University of Boga Boga it was proven that 96.42% of regular forum users find excessive quoting detrimental to their forum using experience.

The quote button will be re-instated when it can be used intelligently.

It's back already! We are obviously learning fast. That is good.

Edit: Oh dear, I think I have misunderstood. I always used the one on the post page (responsibly).
parnell
Bob I respectfully disagree - on active threads there is so much activity that the only way to keep track of responses to posts is to quote. Particularly with long posts with many points.

Ok man, u got me. wink.gif

I'm not used to not being able to quote at will like on some other BB I use.

So everyone has to suffer because of some people dont know how to post. Can't you just PM the people resposible for the mis-use, or put info in the FAQ about how to use it.

Your chopping out one of the most important bits of making the board useable.

is unreadable, esp when you have lots of quotes in one. Which everyone does cause they cant be arsed to use the Quote button in the edit. Bring back the quote button!

I am an advanced internet user, and know how to quote people.

Bring back the quote button!

Can you explain please?

For me to quote you, I have to click reply, then copy and paste your text into this box. I then click the QUOTE button and its quoted.

The admin has disabled a button that lets you do all this in one click.

Aha. Penny dropped. Danke.

So its laziness then ?

I have seen two different kinds of quotes on the board.
One just says
QUOTE
sample text

and the other has a time stamp with who it is from

Now, I believe that the second of these features was cancelled. I had never even used that version of the quote feature before.
You can still quote text. I do it the easy way. None of this 'right click-copy, right click-paste' stuff.

I am reading along and see a bit of text I would like to quote perhaps. I simply right click, drag the mouse over the text I want and let go. The text turns blue (win xp) and I hit Ctrl+C. Then when I finally decide to get around to pasting it in the reply window, I hit Ctrl+V. The text appears. Then if I want to make it a real quote I right click and drag the mouse over said text once again and turn it all blue. Then hit the quote button once. Viola.

Sounds a bit tricky but do it once and you'll see. I have never looked back.
Happy quoting. cool.gif
