Right - so you buy a crate of beer, or in this case mineral water. It comes with a charming little blue carrier thing, the deposit on which is 3€. Now, I know that to get the Pfand on a bottle of H20 all you have to do is pop in and put the bottle in that machine at the back of Tengelmann - how do you get a refund on the crate thing? What about if I want more water - can I just take the old one in and stick it down, empty, and take a new one and tell the charming and attractive
Tengelmann lady that I've just returned a carrier, or is there a system or magic phrase I need to utter??? I know it's not much money, but I'm on a cost cutting drive and 3 yoyos is 3 yoyos in anybody's money...

hmm, never done it at tanglemans, but at the getrankemarkt the fellah counts up what you have onn the way in, including crates, and gives you a chit with the appropriate credit that you reclaim on your way out... with your new beer!
Depends on the shop. At most of them there is a machine that you can put both crates and single bottles in, and you get coins or a docket back.
One bottle shop I go to I have to tell the lady what I brought in and she counts it up on the till and takes it off as I pay.

Hiya
if there is no crate-shaped slot in the machine, you tell a member of staff and they come and sort it out for you. At least that is how it happens in Spar near me.
If you can't see a member of staff, start sighing loudly and waving.
Do not take the empty crate to the till. Till operators do not like that at all.
The staff member has a key to the machine which allows them to print a crate ticket which you take to the till like you do with single bottles.
Does this help?

Ah-ha - that must be the ticket. There's no way a crate would fit in my local one, (tho I've never bothered looking at the machine much to be honest). I'll give it a whirl once I've drunk all my lovely mineral water and feel suitably de-toxed and healthy.
Cheers all for your help,
J

Yeah Jimbo, it has happened to me once or twice that I have been charged Pfand on crates I had brought with me (i.e. had already paid the pfand on them). I usually just say to the check out girl "Den hatte ich dabei' or 'Den habe ich mitgebracht'

I've got this crate which is about half full of empty bottles thats been on on my terrace since I moved in. Can I just take it back to any getranktmarkt and collect the cash? What if I dont want to buy anything?

Why take them back at all?
Empty crates are cheaper furniture than
Ikea. ..

Oooo does this mean they have now gone up in value? I might hold onto them a bit longer... while there is a bull market.

nope sorry when it comes to bottles its definetly bear time.
you could rhough get a broomstick and by cleverly attatching said crates create an extremley flexible and economical weight lifting system, therefore reducing fat gained by beer consumption.
