Hello there. Have been in Germany for exactly 3 weeks now. Living in Forchheim. We are moving into a lovely little apartment here, but alas, there is no kitchen.
If anyone knows where we can purchase a kitchen, new/used, at a reasonable price, please let me know,URGENTLY :excl: .
Thanx

Since so many have viewed my message, but have not replied, maybe I should adjust my request. Any places in the Bamberg / Erlangen / Nürnberg / Frankfurt area? And what would be a good price. Don't need a fancy Siemens stove at all, nor a dishwasher. And is it advisable to buy one on-line. ( Not very jacked-up with buying from the net, unfortunately)

Well when I moved here I went to Roller! I bought units for about 50 Euros which are very nice! The sink was about 70 Euros and it was not easy making a hole for the tap - especially as the only time I could do it was a sunday - and cutting through metal makes a lot of noise without the right tools!
I got a fridge freezer and cooker from Neckerman! - Originally ordered from Quelle but that was a nightmare - one for another thread on customer service!!
Cost 250 and 200 euros respectively.
It was all flat pack DIY stuff but got it done in a weekend! Total cost was about 700 Euros for everything!
I don't intend to be here long so I just bought cheap stuff so I can throw it away when I leave!

Hi little1,
What can I say other than, I have no idea where Forchheim i!
But one idea for cheap kitchens here is to go to some of the larger diy shops, like Obi, or Praktica (or whatever you have there), they have very cheap kitchens, of course you get what you pay for, but if you are looking for cheap and not thinking of holding on to it for 20 yrs then they should be ok.
I bought a kitchen in a sale at a furnature shop for 1500DM when I came here, cheap and chearful, but did the job for the 2 yrs I used it, then sold it to a friend when I moved house.
Ikea do nice kitchens too, we were looking at those for our new house the other month. They have all the electrics too, ovens extractor fans etc. They do a good modular system too that you can move about easily and fit into other houses when you move.
Hope that helps
Neil

Aaaaaah...finally some replies!!! thanx guys. Well, Forchheim in in the Bayern district, about 30 - 40 mins from Nürnberg. Pretty lillte town in a Frankish-Swiss area.
My husband has just started working here at Siemens, and we'll be here on delegation for 3 years. So we really don't need top of the range things. Actually saw a good deal online from quelle, but if u had problems with them deatr28, then I won't bother! Also saw a good deak from Neckermans.
Neilg...will have a look to see if these shops are around here, somewhere.
Thanx

Fürth has a very nice IKEA on the motorway from Erlangen to Nürnberg. I can definately recommend that one.

The problem I had with Quelle was they insisted on payment in advance but I never received the invoice!! Neckerman will deliver and you have to pay on delivery or on invoice after the goods are received!

I have just been checking out the IKEA site, and I must admit that for the kind of prices I see there, it seems quite reasonable.
Bomb...thanx. Have just been trying to figure out on the Germany map which 1 is closest to me. Don't know the area and surrounds that well yet. :$
Thanx all...u have been of great help.
And thanx to Rob & partner for refering me to this site, u are life-savers!

You could always try XXXLutz in Nürnberg (according to my colleague)

Hi Little1,
In Forchheim there is a Globus Baumarkt if you are after something cheap and cheerful, I'm sure they do kitchens but not 100%.
In most Baumarkts you can also obtain cheap kitchens.
No need to go to Nürnburg to XXL Lütz, go in the opposite direction on the autobahn and go to Neubert in Hirschaid its part of the Lütz chain and has the same products as Nürnburg. If you want a decent kitchen that has a delivery period of ...say 5 weeks, the bigger shops usually have a "leihküche" that you can use in the meantime, its usually just a sideboard with hotplates and sink built into it.
Between Bamberg and Schweinfurt you have Engelhardt in Hassfurt, don't bother going there as it also belongs to the Lütz chain.
Happy hunting.

Brit board goes through phases, and you happen to post when it was quiet.
If you only looking for something cheap for short term use you can buy kitchen sink/refrigerator kitchen sink stove units etc. Main advantage is you just drop them in place.
Also I remember seeing a complete kitchen unit at Wall mart for 700 to 800 euros.
Any Baumarkt (Building Store) sells kitchen cupboards, white is the cheapest.
Only negative is everything is flat packed so if your not good at assembly than order it from a place that will install everything.
