Advice on a job proposal in Düsseldorf

Is this a good proposal?

Hi!

A long-time observer of the board, now I'm posting my first message:

I received a proposal to move to Germany and take the position of Marketing Manager in a Telcom Company based in Düsseldorf.
No staff responsibility, rather budget supervision and customer contacts, with
80 thousand Euro p/a gross + company car, cell phone + assistance in moving and some accommodation for the first few months.

Is that a decent proposal? I'm now working in East Europe enjoining good salary and easy living, but the job is becoming boring.

Thanks for all comments.

It depends on a lot of things. Are you married with kids? What kind of accommodation do you have now? How much disposable income do you have now, etc.?

Hi

welcome to the board, I'd say it's a pretty good offer ...I certainly wouldn't sniff at it.
..but as has been mentioned "good" is relative to your own situation and expectations
Düsseldorf like most big cities can be expensive to live in depending on where you choose to live though, it all comes down to your expectations I guess.

On assessing the financial side, be aware that income taxes in Germany will probably be significantly higher than those in Eastern Europe - depending on where you are, of course.

Do you speak German?

sinlge 50%tax

with dependants about 36% tax

and yes that is a very good wage, mention it around and watch the reaction

I doubt anyone will ask if you can live on that, more than likely will be a jaw dropping WOW :excl:

Thanks for all the comments.
You have helped me a lot, I think I will take the job and become more active in this forum after seeing for myself what it's like living in GERMANY as compared to Poland :-)

Welcome Amik, when you get here you will no doubt come up against the German bureaucratic brick wall and will end up banging your head against it like many have in the past. If you have any probs, ask here, there is always someone who will have come up against any problem you’ll encounter and be happy to give advice.

it would be interesting to talk to someone who's lived in Germany and then moved to France or Italy, I've been told that that German bureaucraticy pales in comparsion to France or Italy.

I lived in France and then went to Germany via Switzerland. All I can say is "Vive la France and vive la bureaucratie but vive en la Suisse if you can"!!! wink.gif

I lived in German and moved to France but about bureaucraticy...whats that?

I found registering in Germany no big deal, sorted in a morning, but I did have a German speaker to sort it for me. Getting all the forms I thought I would need before moving to Germany was more of a hassle but never needed then (more E numbers than you find in a bottle of pop). Then got a job on an English base so it was out of the German control.

Registering in France..no hassle at all!! Ooops new I forgot to do something :$ Move again in 6 months so guess it is a bit to late to worry about it now. Husband is in the Army so his is done for him.

The only real bureaucraticy in France I know about it for the French. My daughter travels back alone to the UK frequently with no problem but if a french child travels alone they have to get a letter from the Marie (Town Hall) to give them permission.

France may well have a lot of rules as does Germany but the one difference is that the French choose to just ignore them biggrin.gif

I think it less bureaucraticy than just lots of rules, once you get used to that its all pretty straight forward.
