Anybody got any suggestions for reasonably priced over-night accommodation in Paderborn (apart from Mac's couch - I wouldn't mind, but I doubt if it wuold suit my wife!).

Preferably somewhere not too far from anything worth having a look at and with either a restaurant in house or within easy walking distance (If I'm going to get dragged into duty visits, then I want do be able to enjoy a decent bottle of wine with the meal, without the problem of driving back). Thinking about it, any suggestions for eating on a Saturday evening (not smoked out and overcrowded) would also be welcome - Italian preferred, but anything else is OK as long as it's decent. If Paderborn has a restauarant that runs to a Michelin star, then you could leave that off the list, I prefer to pay for decent food well cooked than hours worth of decoration!

Put my parents in this one once. They were happy with it.

There are a lot of good restaurants in Paderborn
The Brauhaus, Deutscher haus, Lutkemeirs in Sennelager, Shilo Ranch.

The Ibis and Best Western "Arosa" are both recommended by me, stayed at both and are decent. Both well suited for walking into the town centre and zillions of pubs and restaurants.

Send me a PM with your details and I can sort somthing out for you.

@Mac, if all goes as planned, next Saturday/Sunday.

@Kev, not sure of the details yet, this came up after I was already on my way back to Unterlüss. I'll get in touch when I know a bit more, at present I don't know the address in Paderborn that we'll be visiting.

I'm supposed to be in the Ruhrpott next weekend meeting up with Bully... well its more a case of the girls going shopping and as I hate shoppin, Bully will be helping me lift a beer glass or 2 biggrin.gif

Hope to be back in the evening tho, I'll pm my mobile number, might be able to make it into town to say hello (won't come if the beers get too heavy to lift ... even with Bullies help wink.gif )

Well, I survived my visit to Büren/Paderborn, although pouring rain on the drive back was an absolute catastrophe which added over an hour to the return journey and I do NOT like flying blind in spray on Autobahns - I guess I'm getting old.

The town centre of Paderborn I found quite attractive, the outer districts less so! And trying to follow our Büren acquaintance through the traffic to our hotel in Paderborn, I came to the conclusion, that "sie fahren wie die letzten Henker" in Paderborn. Leave 1 foot more than a car-length between you and the next car and two cars try to squeeze into the space (on the way from the left lane to the next right turn exit!). If there's a next time, I'll rely on my Aldi Navigator instead of trying to follow somebody - especially somebody (need I say a woman) ph34r.gif , who has no idea of the problems of trying to follow sombody in traffic!

We finished up staying in the "Meinwerk Institut" which is apparently a (religiously based?) conference centre, in Giersstrasse. It cost us only 55€ and everything was in convenient walking distance. The accommodation is basic but clean (TV in the room costs extra, but we were only there to sleep!). We ate in the Ratskeller and all were well satisfied with a decent meal at a very reasonable price.
