Hi Bleasy,
Welcome to the Britboard. I live in Sennelager, Kev lives in Winterberg but can be found in Paderborn, Dusty lives in Delbrück (close enough to PB) and is the resident expert on all things to do with The Royal British Legion, which has a branch (including a bar

) in Paderborn.
Obviously there are loads of Brits in Paderborn, but we are not all military affiliated and thinking about it... I don't think there are any military types using this board

(well camoflaged if they are

)
If you don't know about Sennelager... It's on the A33 heading north out of Paderborn towards Bielefeld, come up and shop for those little things you miss from home (there is an english shop catering all sorts of uk stuff from marmite to white sliced bread) or just pop up for "real" fish 'n' chips (we got a uk chippy aswell).

Sennelager? It's got lager in it's name, a chippy and and English shop, does it mean heaven in German? I'll be up that way very soon.
I go to language school in Paderborn (still trying to master English) and have seen the signs for bielefeld so I have a rough idea the whereabouts.
Thanks for the post.
Bleasy.

Remember the old Heineken adverts? (Probably the best lager in the world)
Well Sennelager had the title of "Probably The Worst Lager In The World"
The chippy is on the main road through Sennelager, you can't miss it

.
(Senne= this is the local area, or more precisly its the nature reserve used as a battle ground for training NATO troops.
Lager= Camp/Barracks)

or even Neils

You've been here toooooo long Kev.
I personally won't go into Neils Pub, in a pub frequented by drunk squaddies you can expect violence and/or abuse if its a busy night at the end of the month, but to get the threat of violence from Neil when we were the only ones in there and he was sober, just because one of our small party sat on a bar stool that his wife was using, we as paying customers should have priority to use the bar stools over a member of staff. But thats not really the point, the point is he was threatening, we walked out without paying for the drinks that had just arrived.
Sorry but I'm boycotting that place.
I prefer to use the "Akropolis" on Thuneweg.

Wow I have never seen so much traffic about Paderborn!!! I'm Australian (but don't hold that against me)

and I moved to Delbrück about 2 months ago. I would be keen to hear from any other english speakers in the area, because although there are thousands of British army here I think they basically stick together. I am also interested in finding an english playgroup for my 15 month old son - I don't suppose any of you lager drinkers might know about that?

I don't know of any play groups, but at Schloß-Neuhaus swimming pool, Saturday mornings there is an English speaking swim course for babies through to school age children.

Thanks Slackmack and Dusty for the quick replies. I will definitely see what the english swimming course in Schloß Neuhaus is all about.
So Dusty, how long have you been living in Delbrück for? Do you like it? Do you happen to have youself or know any little playmates for my son?
Ciao for now

Lived here for 3 years now. My Son has just turned 4. Sadly he will only speak German although I speak English to him.
I think we have a mutual friends Angela and Rob.

I'd say I have a German accent... *hehe*

My weekends are all already booked up in May, if anyone wants to meet up in Sennelager at "Cafe Lutkemeier" some time in June, well I'd be up for that.

Yes I'd be up for some beers too!
I checked out the fish and chip shop in Sennelager a couple of times, does anyone know of an Indian restaurant?? probably a daft question but thought i'd ask.

Trust me mate, if you were the same Neil as the guy who runs a pub in Sennelager... we wouldn't be as good mates as we are
I used to get on with the fella, but there comes a time when you see something in a persons character you don't like, well then its curtains... he showed his true colours that night
