Munich Kindergartens

...and finding one late on

juanteje
Hi, my son is three years old now and he is ready for kindergarten. Does anyone knows where can I get a kindergarten that will take him? Everybody tells me here that I am already way too late because people here normally book the place in January. I've been also told that there is an govermental office that can take of that...is it true? If so which one?

Any info on this topic will help me...

when did your little one turn three??
where are you, in munich itself?
juanteje
He will be actually three next month, but he is ready to go. Already he knows the colors, to count from 1 to 9, and the brand from every auto he sees on the street.

Sadly he doesn't speak German yet, only spanish, a bit of english and some words that for some reason he prefers to say in french.

you havn't told me where, i you live in the middle of town then it can be hard to impossible to get a place now. check in the phone book or ask poeple in your area and go/ring directly. if your a little bit outside, like me and mine in sunny gräfelfing its easier as the area is much more kiddy friendly, (they build a new kindergarten because there were to many on the waiting list! sports clubs have no waiting lists, restaurants which cater for children )

Don't know if that is what you are looking for but you can give them a call and find out if they are accepting more Kinders.

Crazy. My wife can do that. She says, 'Hey! will that Crystler LeBaron get off my tail!' and stuff like that. I just think 'Gee, it's a big silver car.' Don't know how she does it. I guess it is a natural dispensation to be able to. How fun.

Not really but thanks for the info!

I live a bit outside of Münich but I work in the city (Bogenhausen). I though to maybe drop him off in the morning and my wife will pick him up later...

My wife and I are having no end of trouble finding a Kindergarden, Nursery, Playgroup or just anything really for our three year old daughter (already potty trained). We moved to Munich at the start of November. Every nursery we go to is full, and won't have any places until September. We have three Kinder gardens within walking distance of our house at Rüttenauerplatz (between Pasing and Obermenzing) yet we can't have a place. We went to an American kinder garden today, and they charge four times what the local ones do, but no places there either! Surely there must be somewhere in Munich with a place?

I don't care what it costs or if it's a long way away, it would just be so nice to find somewhere Sam can mix with other children. She was at pre-school in the UK and she's really missing the company of other children.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Shane & Aksana Cook.

They are all full, but...
Try the one at GSF in Neuherberg. There is also one off Neuherberg Strasse. The address is posted under children's fleamarket.
Not a lot of time right now, but PM later.

hi shane, how far out do you want to go? in petershausen (40 mins from hauptbahnoff with the s2) there are places at the catholic kindergarten. do u live on the S2 line by any chance?

Last year, I had the same problem like you guys.

If your son is turning three next month, he won´t be accepted to any of the "city"kindergardens. All kids that turn three after October 31 must wait till next year.

There is a great place (highly recommended) in Balanstraße. Day care is called Kinderhaus Laterne. It is a private place but I think they are not overpriced and they offer a great programm in german, english and french. You can also apply for the substidy by the Jugendamt and then you pay less. My kid was 1.5 years old and he went to day care there and the normal price is 561 (I think) but we had to pay only 203 €. It is worth appliing even if you earn a lot because they always give you something (they are aware of the situation with kindergardens in Munich) The place has great working hours (7:30 - 18:00) and they also offer weekend slep-overs once a month.

Here is the web-site http://www.kinderhaus-laterne.de/

Here are the prices: Ganztags: € 412,- + € 41,- für Essen and you can get substidy up to € 373,24 by:

Stadtjugendamt München
Abteilung Wirtschaftliche Hilfen
Orleansplatz 11
81667 München

Klgirl,

Thanks. We're close to the S2 line, so yes, Peterhausen would be fine, a little far out, but at this time we'd take anything offered. Please can you post or PM us the details. Thanks.

Kind Regards,
Shane & Aksana.
