German clothes with inane writing on them

You know how some Germans walk around wearing clothes with ridiculous English words and phrases on them without realising how stupid it looks to a native speaker...? Did anybody see that guy on Das Quiz just now? The one sitting there proudly wearing a pullover with the word Sicko neatly embroidered onto his chest!?

Raffles
Reggie, do you know how STUPID your post sounds.?

You are a guest in this country.

You are SUPPOSED to be representing your country.

I just hope that any of our hosts who may happen to read this post realise we are ALL not as infantile as Reggie.

Raffles.
Rebecca
Its not just Germans who do this. My sister went shopping in Köln when she was visitng us one time. She came back with a bargain Tshirt. " Look, it only cost me 2 Euros" she said. " Yes" I replied, "but you don't know what MISTSTUCK means do you?"
ablehalle
I, for one, am just as infantile as Reggie.

Do you want us both to pack our bags, then ?
reggie
Thanks for those kind words, Raffles, but there's no need to SHOUT.
sunbedcleaner
Do you guys know the meaning of all those Chinese signs that are printed on your shirts..? I have a Chinese colleague and one day she would just stare at my black shirt with red Chinese writing on it.. I asked her if she knew what it said and she replied yes it means "Please enter"... wacko.gif So much about "Miststück".. :$ susie
Raffles
LOL Reggie, just trying to get through to you Mate. Have a laugh, but don't take the Mickey out of our hosts. They 'aint stupid ... that's for sure.

Raffles.

Now Raffles, at last somebody said one true thing about us. smile.gif
bbulldog
i think the worst is the shirts with DICKIES on them. had a good laugh one day while my son was shopping with us. I was talking to the misses about what was on the shirts but very loud biggrin.gif and raffles before you say i am a guest in this country my son and misses are not. I dont count myself as a guest anymore either.
reggie
Did you miss the point of my posting on purpose, Raffles? Where did I say that Germans per se are stupid?
Nicole
Anyhow we Brits are just a silly. FCUK anyone. Still at least it was semi humourous at the time. Not anymore when you see old Grandads wearing them on holiday in Spain!!:D biggrin.gif

@ Reggie -
This drives me mad. Even my wife comes home with stuff like "cool" and "love me" on T-Shirts. This is a sympton of the German fscination of the English language and lack of understanding of the finer points... It's quite funny occasionally, though. smile.gif

@Raffles -

1. I'm not here to represent anybody.
2. The Brits take the piss (mainly out of ourselves). It's what we do, is a core part of our culture and defines our humour.
3. You're not going to like it on The Britboard!

What about the Phat ones, we invited some friends over for a barbeque and one of the women was wearing one of those short tshirts with baby phat on it
pretty amusing & disgusting considering she probably weighs about 12 stone.
willy
reggie - it's the current trend, not just in germany.

anyone catch mr. "hottie" pitt wearing his infamous post-breakup "TRASH" tee - very fitting, indeed. wouldn't you ladies agree?

self-expression has no limits. and it's not that germans have a fascination with english language, it's only fashion.
alien
It doesn't just affect T-shirts!

I think this site just about sums it all up, with hundreds of examples. Check out Engrish!!!! blink.gif
andrea
Doesn't everyone where silly tshirts sometimes...my best is one with "you're a naughty boy...go to my room" biggrin.gif

I hate the advert on the tv where the blue bear (I think), jumps out and says "so what!" it makes me cringe, i've seen it on rtl, i think it advertises "euronics".
leky
Alien,

Thank you very much for that  Are you trying to get me fired!! :excl:
Posting on the BB I can get away with, it looks like I'm working, but laughing at the computer is a bit of a giveaway. ohmy.gif

That site is brilliant, I am having a very hard time trying to figure out what some of them are really trying to say wacko.gif WTf is pet bottle meant to be??
alien
I've just had half my team asking what the hell I was doing while we were having a "meeting". Posting on the board of course!!! :$

So now I'll put my manager hat back on and do some work ohmy.gif

WTf is pet bottle meant to be??

@ Leky.

Sit down and concentrate. Time for a lesson in general knowledge wink.gif

Abbreviation: PET
Polyethylene terephthalate
Resin Code: 1

Characteristics:

- clear, tough glossy, heat resistant
- can exist in sheet — film and fibre -as a fibre called polyester
- as a thin rigid plastic as in bottles
- solvent resistant
- acts as a barrier and is almost impervious to CO2
- is a thermoplastic

Applications:
- major use as carbonated drink bottles, eg Coke bottles
- also used for some edible oil bottles, peanut butter jars and liquor bottles
- fibres are spun from PET for use in domestic and industrial fabrics including insulation in clothing and as carpet. These can be mixed with organic fibres such as wool or other synthetics such as lycra.
- pillows and sleeping bag filling
- audio and video tapes are made from PET film
- some fishing nets & sailcloths are woven from PET fibres

Recycling:
- PET from post consumer bottle use can be recycled into polyester fibres for carpets, pillow stuffing etc
- PET can be recycled back into non food grade bottles
- in the United States PET is depolymerised back into its raw constituents
- the major drink manufactures are using PET bottles that have a layer of recycled PET sandwiched between two virgin layers

I must get me a life...
Raffles
OK Reggie ... let's lay it to rest Mate. Great board, no need for disharmony.

A lady at work has a t-shirt with the word Enjoy in large letters across the front of it... I'd probably be arrested if I gave it a try!
reggie
Right you are, Raffles.

(And I like to see Newcastle United do well as ex-Bradford City player Andy O'Brien is playing well there.)

Although I don't think Germany has a corner on the random words market, this is where I am, so this is where I see them. Today I saw a Nike shirt (probably available world-wide) that had the Nike symbol on the front, with these words beneath it, in large letters: The Swish is a registered trademark.

I was in a homegoods store before Easter. I saw a wooden decorative sign, with a bunny holding a sign that said: We*lce*me (the bunny's hands separated the words.) I stared at it a long time before I figured out that it was a misspelling of Welcome. wacko.gif

my favourite is on the bog roll dispensers at Hamburg airport: Big Willy... tongue.gif

... and I'm not saying anything about Annus Schlachthof whose trucks proudly display the company name... "ANNUS FLEISCH" ... bugger that (no pun wink.gif )

I have a T-shirt with the "coke" logo but it reads "Enjoy Cock"

A German friend of mine thought it was a great top and asked to borrow it, so I lent it to her, she went to the disco and was shocked when she realised what it meant (I thought she knew it!!)
bbulldog
nice one ish lassie, thats what friends are for

When I was in Garmisch we had a softball team called the Nad's & they had
t- shirts made up that said Go Nads, I wore it one day when I was on holiday in Greece & a bunch of Americans kept staring at me, I made a comment to my (American) friend that they were P******g me off, she then told me it was the t shirt & explained what it meant :$ I really had no clue
imhere4beer
@@@ Leky!!! I think that's the funniest thing I have heard all year!!

"Go Nads!!"
