Restaurants for Single Diners in Munich

Recommendations near city centre?

revolution
Errr. This is a bit akward but can anyone recommend a good restaurant in the city for solo diners? I got to be back in the office late this evening, around 9ish. I wanted to step out for a proper bite to eat but just realized that I don't see too many people sitting solo at sit down places. Recommendations would be appreciated...honestly type of cuisine doesn't matter just want to have a nice meal, a glass of wine without feeling like a numbnut. Anyone else in the same boat is of course welcome to join.

Hiya,
Which end of town will you be at?
Sushi places usually have seating at the bar area otherwise Movenpick is usually pretty good with people on their own, if I'm travelling alone with work, I tend to go to a Movenpick.

Thanks! My place is over by the Hoffbrahaus...never been in there and definitely not that game enough to go in there alone...

try Paulaner im Tal...not far from there, always plenty
of business folks eating alone...it is more
of a traditional place, but food is good...
Karen
Why don't you ask someone to join you?

Hmm . . Don't know about good food and wine ... but there's the San Francisco
Coffee COmpany place in TAL as well ... (about 5 mins from Hofbrauhaus!)

I find places like these (cafes) can be quite relaxing without feeling like a
total tool... One can also hide behind a book quite easily too...

Another idea...don't dine alone.

Pick your favourite restaurant and start a thread: "I'm going to X at Y o'clock for a meal tonight, who wants to join me"

You should get a few takers...

but the Weisses Bräuhaus (also im Tal, an der Sparkassenstrasse) is better than Paulaner.

edit -- there you'll get more sorts of beer than wine though. But you figured that out already, I'm sure...

Bring something to read if you do go alone; then you've got something to look at besides staring at people.

And Hazza's suggestion is really the best way to go!

Buon Gusto for Italian and Shoya for Japanese ...

both have an open-kitchen concept with food bars ... so if you're alone, you can
always chat it up with the cooks, depending on your Italian and Japanese. Genki des!

Never met anyone in TT but I would LOVE company. Anyone else up for dinner? Totally swear I am not sellin' pyramid schemes...

I actually sometimes get a kick out of dining alone, but it's another thing to do it on a regular basis. I don't have any tips of where to go, as I think anywhere should be okay. This is a country where people will ask if the end of your table is free and if it is share it; so a solitary diner shouldn't cause problems.

My tips are though to bring something to read to help kill the time, or even better, something to write. The staff sometimes then think you are reviewing the restaurant and suddenly, the service is much better.

I've taken clients visiting from the US to Haxnbauer on Sparkassenstrasse. A little spendy, but I've frequently seen solo diners there. And they have English menus (thus taking of US clients...).

edit: I've also seen solos eat at the bar at Sausalito's. Little crowded though, and will probably be jammed if you're going at 9.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I posted an open dinner invite to Benjarong. My contact says its a great spot for hot curry and solo dining. Anyone else in the same boat this evening is welcome to join.

Rev, I would come, but Thursdays are always bad for me. Another night!
