Does anybody know where the British shops in Hamburg, or elsewhere north of Hannover are? I've found Belsen, but was a little bit disappointed with the selection. I'd be really grateful if somebody could supply a few alternative addresses. Up to Kiel or Flensburg would also be no problem.
Thanks in advance.

There is a British store in Hamburg at Stresemannstraße 169, the S-Bahn S21 or S3 to Holstenstraße. You can't miss it because it's just across the road. It sells second hand books and videos and lots of English foods. Weblink:

Sandys British foods and other goods - this shop has moved to Stresemanstraße I believe. Was very good when I lived in Hamburg.
Cheers
Ben
Thanks for the addresses folks. They can prepare for an imminent visit this weekend.
I'm getting withdrawal symptoms due to lack of Twiglets for almost a year! (Amongst other things!)

Used to shop there when I lived in Hamburg. They go across to England regularly. So you can place orders with them from the major English food stores, e.g. Marks & Spencers.

There is a new shop in Hamburg, called
BRITISH SHOPPING. I have to say that it is better organised and stocked than the one in Stresemannstrasse. And if they dont have what you're looking for you can usually place an order with them and they'll get it on their next trip to Britain. Address is Hegestrasse 30. That's in Eppendorf, Hamburg.

I went to "British Shopping" in Eppendorf a few weeks ago. It's not bad. It's kind of quirky - like it used to be someone's house. The food's good. Plenty of pies, baked beans, back bacon, etc, (some frozen food too) but be prepared to pay about double what you would in the UK. I think it's worth it once in a while if you can't get over to the UK for your favourite supplies. I particularly liked the selection of Hob-Nobs. Difficult to park there if your driving.
Open 10:00 till 19:00 during the week and till 16:00 on Sat.

As
British Shopping are currently not online (due back soon - I heard), copy and paste '' Hegestrasse 30 '' into
Stadtplan Hamburg or search on
www.hvv.com in English. Train stations are very near both locations.
Info on the Holstenstrasse location is also on
www.english-books-hamburg.de Any other info I find, will be on my website, or was added in the last five years - see CARD.

It has been a long time since anyone replied to this question. But we (
English Books and Foods Hamburg) are still going strong. we even take your things back to the UK. Our friends in the fine Eppendorf are showing how a real Cornish Pasty is butchered and we in the inly poor part of town have got a parking lot.

I drive past occasionally when I get to go into the office (I normally work from home). When driving its not obvious (to me) that there is parking available. maybe because I have both hands on the wheel & am trying to avoid the locals.

well, if you start blinking as you see the pillarsof the shop, drive 30kph, then after the two billboards there is an entrance. the gates are open from 13.00 to 19.00.

Assuming I am coming out of the centre heading towards Kielerstrasse...

Exactly. At the moment there is scaffolding covered by sheeting, just after the entrance.

Some tips for those that don't want to go all the way to these Brit shops.
1) Weetabix you can pick up at REWE (previously Minimal)
2) Heinz Baked Beans you can pick up at Edeka
3) Walkers Crisps you can pick up at "Oh its Fresh!" it's a semi posh snack place (There is one near Altona-Fischmarkt). If I recall they sell other Brit or American stuff sometimes. It varies.
4) Karstadt food chain also do some Brit stuff like biscuits I believe.
I really need to get myself over to one of those Brit shops (didn't realise they did pie's and such) but I never dare to go over to the West side of the Alster

Come on - we Westerners don't bite (not often)...
What I miss is good English cheese (& I dont mean mousetrap cheddar).
SO thats something I can bring back from UK on my rare visits (family are not clammed).
For family I need to bring pork & apple sausages & decent smoked bacon...

You're right. Edeka on Osterstrasse (previously Spar) sells Walker's crisps and prob Heinz beans too. Worth looking around.

Yeah, Karstadt in the city (Mönckebergstr. 16) sells Marmite, Vegemite (for us aussies) and, I think, a range of Heinz products.
But see your bank manager before you go...

Best place for bacon in Hamburg I've found is called
"Frische Paradis" down on the harbourfront. In contrast to the overly salty, rubbery stuff you get in supermarkets here, what they stock fries up nice and crispy. It comes in a rather large package though, but if you break it down into slices of 10-12 and freeze 'em, you've got great bacon for a few breakfasts.
Ach! Just read more closely and see that you want back bacon! That's what we call Canadian bacon, btw. I prefer the regular kind.
Tip about Frische Paradis: pay in cash the first Monday of the month and get 15% off everything. Great store, walk-in coolers for meat, dairy and produce, plus a lot of specialty items you won't find elsewhere.
