Tips for meeting people Essen

Hello, I have recently arrive in Essen from England, i am working for an English school, and would like to meet some people, either German or English. Anyone have any tips on where are good bars and places to eat, I am living in the Ruettenscheider area.

Also does anyone know if there are public swimming pools in Essen and where they are. I went to one near my home recently and it had been closed due to sanitary issues!

I've been living in Germany for about a year now, and my favorite place to hang out is the upstairs area of Starbucks. Anyway, there is also a website for creating Meet Ups (meetup.com) where you can set up something like an "expat" meet up group - should you feel so inclined to do so.

wir not that far from Essen (about 45 mins in the car) just outside Dortmund, (Wetter an der Ruhr to be precise)
We quite often go to a Pakistani restaurant in Witten or meet up in the Limerick's Irish Pub in Dortmund, if you're
interested I'll let you know next time we're going. I've been in Germany since 1987 btw.

Please note that there is an international English-speaking Club in Mülheim (Social Club Muelheim a.d. Ruhr) which is open to English-speakers of any nationality. The Club offers a Monthly Information Meeting ("Feldmann-Villa", Augustastr. 108-114, Mülheim-Styrum, Friday, June 8, 8pm) and two informal Pub Evenings every month.

well I used to live in Essen and I know Fritz Patrick Irish pub pretty well. I used to go there quite often. I've recently moved to Bottrop which is round about 20 min drive away.

as already mentioned I am interested in meeting other people as I live next door to Essen. So the next 2 weeks I'm on holiday but after that I'll check this thread again to see if anything is planned or not.

No worries Welshman...I myself need to flirt between here and England myself over the next couple of weeks to sort things out with my house over there - but will be keeping a close eye on this thread and would be happy to meet up if I am in Germany.

You folks would be surprised to find out how many British people live in Essen. However, they probably don't know Toytown Germany ...

so whi is organising a meet-up ? I too would be interested.

I haven´t exactly recently moved to Essen - I was born here, so you may already have guessed that I´m German . However, I did part of my degree in England and I´m now working as a teacher for English at a Gymnasium here in Essen (Gymnasium an der Wolfskuhle in Essen-Freisenbruch, should anyone know...), so I too would be interested in a meet-up.

I'm also waiting for a new date and location to meet up. "I'm free Humpfry"
