Bars in Munich: Prinzip, Ododo, Reich und Schön

Keydeck
Friday nights mission into the Dunkelheit was undertaken by myself, Mert (agent 557) & Mr. Smith (the artist formerly known as "an average Irish lad abroad" and currently known as "lads").

First stop was The Dubliner Irish pub on Candidplatz. We met at 9pm which was too early for the live music. It's supposed to have pretty good bands, but we didn't wait to find out. The place is basically quite unimpressive. Fairly grotty interior with nothing in particular to spark any interest. According to a woman we were chatting to, it has gone dramatically downhill over the last two years and she also reckoned that the owners are no longer Irish, which in my opinion always makes a huge difference to an Irish pub. The customers looked mostly like regulars and it's unlikely that the place has much passing trade if any. Not a great start to the evening.

A walk as far as Columbusplatz and then a U-Bahn to Sendlingertor found us sipping pils in Padres. I've spoken about this place in a previous posting so there's no need to go on about it. Suffice to say that it was packed and we stayed for one very pleasant beer.

Next stop was Ododo on Buttermelcherstrasse. I hadn't been here before and wanted to have a looksee. It's odd that some bars in Munich become really popular for what appears to be no apparent reason whatsoever. It's a nice enough little bar, good service, lots of good looking clientelle, but very sparten interior (sparten, not Späten). Pretty much just an L-shaped room with a long sofa bench around the back wall, the bar on the inside of the L and that's about it. Managed to get a table, so we stayed here for a few.

Left the area and headed for Haidhausen to Wasserwerk. I do like this bar. Good music, relaxed fun crowd, friendly service, etc, etc. Try the nachos. €3.50 for a big basket and a spicy dip. Well yummy! We lost Mert after this place mostly because of smokey contact lenses and myself & "Lads" soldiered on.

Decided to give Prinzip (ex-O'Reilly's) another chance and once again got unceremoniously turned away from the door. Ok, this time I argued with the guy and tried to find out the reason why we couldn't get in and why he was being such a prick. Funny that, bouncers who speak good English don't react too well when you ask them why they are being such a prick. He went on about it being an invitation only night for regulars. I asked how that could be possible that they would have a guestlist of regulars since they'd only been open a month. No answer was forthcoming. Anyway, since we "didn't fit the club profile", we headed across the road to Reich und Schön to finish off the evening. €8 entry and when we got in, it was clear that we were certainly at the top end of the age scale in the place. One girl who we spoke to mentioned that she was in school. I asked what she was studying and he replied, no no, I'm still in school. 17 years old, yikes. Anyway, had a few there whilst perusing the assorted scattered totty and then decided to take our geriatric bodies home.

A very fun night, although a bit spread out to be a useful crawl.

me being Mr Smith, want to tell you guys what Saturday was like !! I got up at 11am , felt quesy and threw up. This sickness continued all day and just before me dinner at 1800 rang to "jacks" and threw up again...I was shaking. The beer in Reich and Schoen was chronic. But I survived another Keydeck night and the most I could do Saturday night was sit in the cinema watching some film I cant remember and then home to bed at 11pm,,(like a German) to recover. !!!!
