What is it with bleedin fox trottin to every tune at a party?
Me... I'm happy to enjoy myself without taking up this annoying compulsary dance dry.gif
mike_a
Ahhh, I think you probably mean the famous German "Disco Fox", Slack.

It has to do with the "Tanzschule" culture: As a teenager, practically everybody used to take dancing lessons, and many still do. They learn all the standard dances, but the "Disco Fox" is the easiest, and "passt zu fast alles"... So that's what they do...

There again, if you watch any pre-disco Brit or US films, you'll see pretty well everybody except Fred & Ginger doing a sort of shuffle-based-on-a-walz thing, which sort of does the same job.
zwackel
That disco-fox is really a pain in the a***. Its only getting worse (if it could anyway) when they start dancing to Mr. Awful"Wolfgang Petry"...
reggie
What really annoyed me was the way that at a Kirmes or whatever, when a new song was about to strike up, everybody would proudly stand round in a big circle with their arms linked as if something spectacular was about to happen, and then about 4 beats into the song, turn round to their partner and begin this disco fox shuffle thing. Then for the next song, link arms in a big circle, wait till the music starts, and then embrace your partner and off you went. I was always dying to sprint across the circle as if it was some kind of lucky-dip, grab the most gorgeous bird on the dancefloor, and waltz off with her and just watch everybody's faces... cool.gif
Mickey
There´s nothing wrong with Wolfgang Petry ph34r.gif

@reggie

Well maybe you should jump in the next time laugh.gif
Dont want to know what would happen thou rolleyes.gif

And anyway...what about the attraction the british hold for the song: Come on Eileen??? Everytime this song comes on everybody runs to the dancefloor.
Or this is the worst one: Ups upside your head...and everybody sits on the floor and waves back and forth, left and right dry.gif
I´d rather foxtrott around the room if I have to...mind you most of the time I´m that drunk that I cant manage it anymore. ph34r.gif

Hey Mickey,

there's nothing wrong with Wolle Petry until you can't hear of see him tongue.gif
Ok, thats always a matter of personal taste, but i'd need a huge dose of narcotics to put a smile on my face while listening to him...wink.gif

...and yes, i still do like the DMR ! (not comparable to WP anyway )

Then what's he hiding under all those "Freundschaftsbänder"?

Do people still do that? I've not seen any "rowing" in 20 years!

@Mickey:

That's not comparable to Discofox, more to Conga. Start playing "Die Karavanne Zieht weiter..." here, and see what happens... Whats' the difference?

In the conga you stretch out your arms and put your hands on someone else's shoulders, and someone else puts their hands on your shoulders, and you run round the room.

When you're rowing, you get down on the floor and put your legs round someone else and someone else puts their legs around you, and you rub against each other...

And the germans think the Brits are reserved wink.gif
Hellie
Well I'll dance to anything if I have enough alcohol in me biggrin.gif mind you I'll dance to anything if I didn't!!! :$ laugh.gif

This was also done last night, and the song wasn't even oops up side your head unsure.gif it was some song in German which didn't even have the same tune wacko.gif

As for the Disco fox being left over from dance classes, I suppose there is a certain amount of truth in that for older generations … but why do 15 or 16-year-old horny (allegedly) teenagers want to dance like their parents dry.gif , damn sure I wouldn’t want to dance like my dad when I was teenager ohmy.gif … un-cool alert.

One of the best bits was the goddamned awful karaoke, only because no one danced the disco-fox. laugh.gif

I see...I bet you like a bit of the old Blues being played too :$

Wolfgang doesn´t wear the "Freundschaftsbänder" anymore, he donated them to some charity...I think.
And for the Conga...I hate it. When I went out on Rosenmontag a lot of that went on but I never joined. Have to admit thou that I was singing the loudest to: Rot, Rot, Rot sind die Rosen ph34r.gif Mind you to my defence I had drunk about a liter of Feigling at that point. ohmy.gif
mike_a
Must be something to do with Paderborn, Slack biggrin.gif

Maybe because the excitement is not so visible, when you're facing your partner at close range biggrin.gif

Mickey
@Bully
I´d love to see you Foxtrotting full stop.

Isn't it a shame that some people really admit their awful taste of music in public.

Wolfgang Petry?? Excuse me, that's one of the worst things which exists in German music!!! wacko.gif

Maybe I am not old enough to like such a crappy music!

I´m just a very brave person. wink.gif

I stopped listening to German music when "Katzen Klo" hit number one, some things are past vindication.

I got told recently of some schnip-schnap-schnappy ditty that hit number one, I had to listen to it to believe something could be so bad. Deutsche Hit Parade. laugh.gif
mike_a
People! It would be a boring world if everybody just liked the same things.

What happened to diversity? You should never dispute taste. There's just as much top selling shit in all the charts, but if those people are happy to pay out for it, it's their problem, you don't have to listen to it.

If you've ever had to listen to the likes of Andy Stewart and Jimmy Shand doing "The White Heather Club" all evening every weekend, you'd be more tolerant biggrin.gif

Great titles like:

"Wid ye stop yer tickelin Jock"
"Donuld whaur's yer troosers"

Hooch und shoogle rules, ya bas! ph34r.gif
Neil
...oh and he can Mickey ...I've seen the video ! cool.gif
