Meeting up in the Hagen area

Hello everyone living in the Hagen area!

Is there anyone interested in meeting up in the next couple of weeks in Hagen or anywhere close by? Pub visit or going out for dinner or something else nice

I'm hoping to meet some new people this year!

Silly question maybe , but where about is Hagen ? :doh:

Hagen is south of Dortmund on the edge of the Sauerland. It used to be a very ugly city but has done a lot to itself in the 8 years that I've lived there. Even my friends who come to visit me notice that Hagen has improved.

We are down for the Burns night, weather depending, (snow - no show).

...the burns night will have to be considered separate as I just got back from Scotland and I've only got enough Haggis for those who PM'd me last month in reply to my request for those who would be definately attending. (date to be announced)

The re-opened Ratskeller would be a great idea or maybe Banderas next to the cinema.

So any suggestions for a date? Weekday or weekend? I would prefer weekend then all the working folks can come.

I would be up for 4th or 5th February get together. A bit of a drive from Celle, could provide transport if anyone else from Celle/Hannover area was interested. Would stay over in Hagen. Any suggestions for local hotel?

On my own. Good if I can get some helpful local advice on hotels, though!
I can be flexible on Friday or Saturday night will check to see what's been decided.

I'd be coming directly from Cologne on the 4th, but could give anybody between Düsseldorf and Wuppertal a lift home, or both ways on the Saturday...

Hi, it seems that the meeting up is coming together. About hotels in Hagen:

I can recommend http://www.hotel-auf-dem-kamp.de/ or Hotel Schmidt also in Hagen Süd. Hotel Lex in the centre of Hagen seems good but haven't had guests who've stayed there due to it being a bit more pricey. If I can help more, just let me know!

Which date is going to be better for you Walnut as you're going to be coming the longest distance? Do you finish work early enough on a Friday to be able to make the journey west?

Saturday 5th is probably my preference, just in case something happens at work on Friday that might delay my departure, but if this causes a problem to others it is still possible for Friday night (3 hours drive-approx) so I could make it. Have also been contacted regarding giving a lift to another 'boarder' from Hannover so will check this out today, to see if we can make this work.

I could make it maybe, if we "Northeners" can get a car together (being worked on at the moment), could be a good laugh.

I'd also be happy to travel in a shared car from the Hannover area to the meet.
Otherwise it's a bit far for me to travel on my lonesome!

Neila - just reverse it and call me alien, so we can tell the difference between all the Neils here!

'Northern contingent' (possibly 3) are sorting out travel arrangements but should be OK for Sat 5th Feb, we will liaise and confirm by early next week.

Is every one aware that the 6 Nations starts on the 5th? not that everything gets organised then you look for reasons to cry off

I think Britboards very first meet up in Hameln suffered from this problem a few years ago.

Controversial point: Personally I can stand watching the highlights some other time on the TV.

Can't you watch the games and then get down to Hagen in the evening? Or do you mean you are travelling to the games to watch 'em live?

Is there someone keeping count of the number of people expected in Hagen on Sat 5th Feb.? That doesn't mean I am going to cry off! I'm just interested how many others intend to go. Myself, pirate and walnut should be going.

Actually I pinched this bit of info off of the Baden Würtenburgers meet up thread, I know how much effort is being put into the Hagen meet up and I don't want to see it flop at the last minute.

Bombi and I booked the separate room in the restaurant yesterday! So please don't let us down!

There will be about 10-12 people! Maybe even more...haven't heard from some who said there wanna come in the first place! The room is for 16 people!

Bridget and I have booked the Ratskeller, it hasn't been open that long but the food and beer is good. They have an extra room so we've booked that so we can be all on our ownsome!
