Can anyone recommend a really nice family day out in the NRW area? I have been to all the XMAS markets and would like to suprise my family with something different.

--> all musuems and koln & bonn have been visited
--> Phantasialand is also off as my wife is not a fan of roller coasters wacko.gif
--> as our son is only 7 months it has to be Buggy friendly

any suggestions would be appreciated!

It's harder at this time of year as lots of things are closed...How about Monschau? Pretty, lots of cafes etc - it's a really nice drive too but is hilly in places although I saw others with buggies managing. Linz-am-Rhein is nice but you couldn't spend that long there. There's always Koblenz too.

Suggestions for the summer: the Freilichtmuseum near Hagen is nice - think a German Beamish and you'll be on the right lines. Nearer to home - the peace museum at Remagen is interesting, as is Konrad Adenauer's old house at Rhoendorf.

I know its the wrong time of year but in the summer try this http://www.irrland.de/
The kids love it and you won't see them all day and its relatively cheap.

I love going to Winterberg in HSK (Hochsauerlandkreis) at this time of year. You can visit the town and if there is enough snow, go sledging. It's the highes point in NRW and is also the nearest mountain for the Dutch so it's also full of Dutch people. The shops are even open on Boxing Day there due to it being a tourist area. smile.gif

Thanks Louise, James & Bombi - some great ideas. I have actually spent the day near "Hohe Acht" which is close to Kesseling & Nurburgring. A fair bit of snow is there at the moment and lots of sledging to be done!

Have a great xmas!
