Has anyone been or heard anything about the turkish Riviera?. Me and the missus are planning a quick break over xmas. I see that Turkey is well priced over the festive period. I know its cheap, but is it nasty??.

Your comments would be appreciated

I had a truly excellent holiday in Turkey this summer .. but it rather depends which resort you are considering .. any ideas?

We are looking at Antalya. Thats where the best deals seem to be coming from. I am actually looking for something relaxing. Where was it that you went?

Hi,

We've been the Turkish Riviera a couple of times and I can recomend it.
We been to Side (Sorgun / Manavgat) and he hotel complex we were in
was first class and comparable to anything you'll find on other european
resorts and we've also done a sailing holiday from Bodurum to Marmaris
which was superb. Obviously I can only speak from our experiences which
were all good, but in general I couldn't think of anything negative apart from
the fact that you won't find much pork on the menus wink.gif .

Have a nice holiday (if yo go for it) smile.gif

Went sailing from the home port of Gocek for a week in April and it was beautiful. AND some amazing ruins there, one in particular: an ancient Byzantine town on a whole island, a true jewel of history.

Turkey doesn't sell itself properly!!

Hi,

I've heard that Tchibo has got a good offer at the moment. 8 nights on the Turkish Riv. with half board in a 5 star hotel for 99 euros!

Just compare that with the price of a flight from Frankfurt to Heathrow or Manchester - makes you feel sick.

After those bombings in Istanbul, and the attacks on western tourists in Bali, I wouldn't head to Turkey. But then, thats just my opinion, don't let it put you off.

I guess that's why it's so cheap. It's all about supply/demand risk/reward etc

Great replies. Turkey has been somewhere thats interested me for a while, right enough if I want to go to Turkey I could always take a walk through Frankfurt.. biggrin.gif ...No seriously thanks for the info.

I ve never been to Turkey myself but lots of Brits buying holiday villas as there pretty cheap in the moment. My dad recently flew out to Bodrum after being promised a 4 bed Villa, but when he got there he found out thed sold it to someone else/ blink.gif but hes still looking..he said the locals are really friendly and the place is nice aswell. I must say I was surprised when he said Turkey though. unsure.gif
I ve found a Forum a bit like this one but its for Brits in Turkey laugh.gif its quite funny as they have their rants aswell...also may give you some ideas of where to go

Is it possible to book a holiday in an English hotel, I had a friend book a last minute holiday and wound up spending his time with 500 other Germans, nothing personal, but on holidays I want to hear English. I've been told that the hotels are all owned by the same company but that they don't mix Germans and Brits
I wonder why eh tongue.gif

Turkey is well worth the visit. You can do an amazing amount of different things without breaking the bank. The people are exceedingly friendly especially if you try and learn about 10 words!

Get a 4 star hotel or above, find it in a medium sized town 10,000 to 20,000 people (otherwise you are trapped in the hotel)!

Do not go for less than a 4 star Hotel (WARNING)!

Never accept the first price quoted! Do not book tours from your hotel or the beach! Go to proper travel agents to do so (they are as frequent as the stray dogs there)!

Enjoy it wink.gif

Ps you do not have to worry about being bombed, not unless you get worried about popping onto the Autobahn here (the chances of getting killed on the road here is much higher)!
That reminds me do not rent a car there, they drive just like Italians! Order taxis or jump onto the local busses!

And try the local baths!

Try the Titanic in Antalia. It's five star and I've heard nothing but rave reviews about it.

v. cheap considering the price. Bloke I share my office with (he's German) is sunning himself there as we speak.
