Going out in Munich with a group

Since the thread about my birthday was closed, I'll post it here. I had a blast last night!! This morning wasn't such a blast though...hangovers still exist Pictures are coming up later, my server isn't working that well so I can't get them uploaded at the moment (some people should be glad about that )

Unfortunately at the end of the night there was a bill left with 19 beers and 5 tequila's on it which wasn't been paid for. It happens that someone forgets how many beers he or she had exactly, and I don't mind paying for an extra beer if it's left on the bill. But I thought this wasn't so usual. The people that were left all chipped in to cover it (thanks guys).
I have a feeling how this could have happened, and this is therefore a general warning to everyone when going out in a fairly big group. I remembered that we didn't use all the tables in that corner, and that there were other people sitting there. One might have noticed that we were one big group and took advantage of it and started ordering beers at the waitress assuming to be part of the group.

You shouldn´t have paid for that - they´ve got no right to make you. If there are walk-outs, it´s their problem, not yours!

I agree (a bit). If I am the last one to pay, I still shout what I ordered and don't simply say "Was auch immer übrig bleibt". Sometimes waitresses moan that there is stuff left over, but can't force you to pay. Could be tough if the excess is in the 10s though, usually with us it is a Maß or 2.

Yes but presumably if it is a large group, you will normally assume that one (or more in the case of this example) of your party has simply forgotten to pay and stump up with a view to getting it from that person later on. I've done this many times.

Incidentally I cleared a tab of 9 Helles in Murphy's yesterday. Some of it was mine but not all. If anyone had outstanding dues there then I'd appreciate a pint in return at some stage.

I will buy you a couple tonight, I may have had one or two more than I thought that night...but I am pretty sure it wasnt 19

One more reason not to drink in big rounds or groups.
If I'm running a tab I much prefer they make marks on a deckel or paper slip when you get drinks.
