Or at least the error message was something like that!
What happened there? Was I too slow in trying to append to my post and the "Edit" window timed out? Or is it a funny bug?

As far as I know this only happens in 2 situations:
1. You edit the post, but while you're doing it the edit time expires.
2. While you're editing the post your session expires and you're no longer logged in.
I imagine in your case it was the former.
If you need a specific edit on a post after the edit timeout has expired, send me a PM including a link to the post and the text to be changed.

Thanks, I thought it would be something like that.
It wasn't a problem because you stil get the chance to copy out of the editing box before closing it down, so I just opened another posting and copied in what I'd already written.
