I'm looking for somewhere to hold a birthday party in Munich, preferably without having to pay expensive hire out fees or deposits! Can anyone recommend anywhere?
Thanks!

How big are you looking at? What do you want to do in the space?
Nearly any restaurant with a "nebenraum" (side room) will let you reserve it and use it for free. I've done it loads of times for parties and just for big groups of people. Bavarian restaurants are your best bet. What part of town do you want to hold it in?

Schlachthof have a nice side room where we had a wee party once. u get your own bar, little stage for bopping, perfect for about 30 to 60 people. u don't have to pay a fee just guarantee that a certain amount of alcohol will be drunk. most places do this, some set a very high target. schlachthof was really reasonable, though. weekends requires a higher guarantee. they have a finger food menu too. cd player so u can basically play whatever music u like. call this number and ask about the "seitenraum"

Hiya
you can rent the back room at
Eat the Rich I think.
Moro (Glockenbackviertel) also has a side room.
Renting rooms from Youth Clubs and Kindergarten (from münchen.de).
Partyraum.dePausenlos in Westend also does this too.
There are a few places near the Uni, what is the name of that place with the big party cellar? Think that it is on the Schellingstr. or nearby. I remember that they are pretty cheap but the name of the place has just gone. Can anyone help?

Katrina's tip of youth clubs is worth following if you have a big party. I'v been to 30th birthdays at the youth centre on Dachauerstrasse and the one in the south (Wettersteinplatz?), both are cool. The one down south is great as it has separate rooms for different themes (food, drink, karaoke, whatever) and downstairs there's games and also a little disco with dancefloor and lights etc... nice atmos and dirt cheap, but make sure you have personal insurance as someone spilt drinks over the fuse box and caused a € 300 repair bill...

Have a look at the thread
Christmas party locations for hire, we were starting to plan a christmas party and loads of people posted links and stuff.
Otherwise, why not just book
The Arc? (see events in Munich - upcoming events at the arc - there's a link there, or PM Hazza. It's cosy, they can cook and it's perfect for 50.

Not sure if this is a little old fogie-ish but I recently went to a very good party at
Wirtshaus am Lerchenauer SeeIf you are going to be 50 people you can reserve the whole place. It doesnt look much from the outside but it has a great position overlooking the lake, the food is excellent and there is a raised area at the end of the main room where you can set up the DJ. If the weather isnt terrible there is an exit to a terrace adjoining the main room. The other benefit is that if you can't be bothered to go home after the party they have a hotel with about 12 rooms.

Unless I am very much mistaken, the following two spaces are available to hire for a party of 50 to 100 people:
Cocodrillo...downstairs at
Café FlorianHohenzollernstrasse 11, Schwabing
Shisha Club...downstairs at
CreamAmalienstrasse 87, Schwabing
These are both very similar. They are in basement areas below the main cafés and have their own bar. Both generally available for hire during the Winter months only.
I used The Loft in Friedenstr. for my 40th. It was about DM320,- (€160,-) then, they supplied all the beer and we partied until 7am.
The family did sell it to be converted (back) into a hotel in 2002, but development still hasn't started.
Look them up in the phone book and talk to Herr Hain. He's a really nice guy.

I had my b-day party at Alter Simpl on Türkenstrasse last year. I didn't have to pay anything upfront, just let them know a few days ahead. They have a big area near the bar with tables and stools...

Go to Endlos cafe. They close normally at 8pm, so you can hold your own private event there after they close. You can also apparently bring your own food in as well, only paying for the drinks!
Nice trendy atmosphere, they have two projectors too, so you can arrange effects probably as well.

Can recommend the two places I've been to for birthday drinks - rented out both times for about 25 people:
Cafeteria (Blumenstrsse, if I recall correctly)
Barflys in
Lehel (I know not many people like this place, but it's not rowdy, good cocktails and a pretty good location)

mate, if it's any help what we normally do is try and find a bar that we haven't had a party at before, go there before hand and ask if 40 odd people can turn up and effectively take over the place. Sometimes we also take our own DJ too (which can be organised for a small fee if you want - not me BTW). Some bars aren't interested but if there's enough people drinking and takings are up they'll let you do it. Last year for my birthday they actually closed the bar off (CAFE CHERIE -Gärtner Platz) to locals and left us to it - till gone 5 in the morning!

Next March I will be 40 (frightening I know) but a friend from London has just suggested that she comes over with a whole lot of my mates and my family and we have a big bash here in Munich. I am warming to the idea and with all my Munich pals it could be quite a biggish event. Does anyone have any suggestions for venues I could consider? Looking for somewhere with alcohol, food and maybe somehwre to dance

you can rent out some of the rooms in the Ratskeller
think you can rent a room at the Hofbräuhaus, as well
you probably can in most of them, actually
or rent out Ryan's and get that singer bloke to do a turn

The
Hofbräukeller does a good job with either a set menu or buffet, they have separate rooms in various sizes as well. Ask Paul Daley at
Shamrock about a band.
well if your pulling out the stops, the seehaus has event space or if you want to get yourself away from the plebes, set yourself and your scottish band onto a party boat. Im sure you could do a nice event on starnbergersee that could get your mom's seal of approval. assuming no one heaves or gets hefted overboard. do a bavarian brunch the next day, they're good for hangovers you know, allegedly.

QUOTE (Bell the cat @ Jun 18 2006, 7:01 pm)

I think they came from Dumfries
Can I come to this party then? As a Doonhaemer myself...

What about the
Pschorr at Viktualienmarkt?
The basement has lovely rooms for free hire (they often work on a minimum drink purchase basis) and a music licence. Easy for transport links too.
For bigger parties with buffet or sit-down menus, they have a room upstairs with spectacular views. There's a PDF on the site with prices and contacts.
Excellent beer, the food is a wee bit pricey but I've enjoyed everything I've eaten there, especially the obazda - that really is good.

Hi all,
A friend of mine is looking for a good birthday party venue preferably Schwabing or Central Munich in September.
There will be around 50 to 60 people and it needs either the entire venue to be available or a big enough reasonably private section to be available.
The venue needs to be able to provide food, at a reasonable price, probably buffet style, which she will pay for!
The guests will then pay for their own large quantities of booze!
Any recommendations?

cafe reitschule will go from reserving you an area either inside and outside to providing full catering and inclusive drinks for over 300, so sure you can negotiate whatever you want with them. they have a nice terrace at the moment for al fresco and will put on a bbq for you.

There is a cute little place in Glockenbach, Ickstattstrasse 2, called Mezzo which has one big farmhouse-style dining table and a cute little back room. It would be ideal I think.
