English-language books in/near Stuttgart

After seeing the book club comment before, it reminded me that if you're in the Stuttgart region and fancy some English books to read, you may pop into the O'Reilley's pub at Schwabstrasse. They have English books in there that you can borrow and return whenever you like. It's run on trust, so don't go nicking them!

This one's for the Stuttgarters : 3 or 4 years ago there used to be a second hand bookshop run by an old American guy, more a shack than a shop really, somewhere out by Sonnenberg or thereabouts. Now I'd like to go back but I can't remember exactly where it was. Does anybody know what I'm talking about, or can confirm whether he's still there ?

Sorry, I can't help you with your specific question, but on a general note if anybody's interested in second-hand books, O'Reilly's Irish pub (Reuchlinstraße, near Schwabstraße s-bahn station) has a selection of English books that people have donated and can be borrowed.

I've managed to answer my own question, be getting on the U-Bahn and going to have a look: yes, he's still there. So for anybody interested in picking up paperbacks on the cheap, get the U-Bahn to Sonnenberg and he's about 50 yards further on the left. Books are eur 1 each. Nice old boy, he only does it as a hobby.

He only opens Saturday 10 am - 3 pm. Hope this is of interest to someone besides me.

Is he still there?? He has been there since I lived here the first time about 15 years ago!! I could have helped you earlier but still didn't see this until I got home, at least you got a nice ride out on the Strassenbahn

I´ve heard about this bookstore, but not had chance to make it there myself yet. The info I have is that you need to get on the U Bahn to Sonnenberg, and the shop is about 50m away from the U Bahn stop. Its only open on Saturdays between 10am and 2pm (I think!) - which is why I´ve not made it there yet, cos I work most Saturdays.
