That Bloke Off The Radio
Jun 29 2004, 3:01 pm
Yes, Lord Simon Guettier von Herford is back on air on BFBS Radio One from 2pm CET tomorrow for the next couple of months.
Well, I guess now Auf Wiedersehen Net has gone quiet following his curbing of all George-like activities, SDG's got plenty of time on his hands again!!!

Gone quiet? That's a bit of an understatement.
Has he got a listerners' call-in section? I'll give him a ring and brighten up his day.

I was listening to Talk Radio last night and I heard a trucker called George from Paderborn phone in and complain that BFBS radio is boring.
Is that any of you? Or was he the inspiration for the George on the "other" board? Or maybe it was our own George Clooney that phoned up?
Slackmack

Well it wasn't me and I don't know any trucking George in Paderborn
@ a3-steve, do you know a George in PB?

He's not wrong though is he. BFBS is like hospital radio, in fact if I had to listen to BFBS whilst on life support I would probably unplug myself!

depends who your listening to, there is one dj that gets right on my tits, he's always banging the hard-done-by-the-english-scottish-drum, after a while it gets boring.

Aw. I can' believe that that can get boring - oder täusch ich mich!
This is all moving in the realms of insider dealing, where I have no idea what it's all about. I've obviously been here far too long!!! BFBS is unfortunately not available in Schleswig-Holstein!

BFBS Radio 1Location FM Bielefeld 103.0 (Paderborn/Soest/Lippe/Münster)
Bonn 97.8 (low power transmitter)
Drachenberg 93.0 (Hannover/Harz/Magdeburg)
Hameln 99.3 (low power transmitter)
Langenberg 96.5 (Dortmund/Köln/Ruhrpott... on a good day Koblenz)
Nordhorn 106.5 (low power transmitter)
Visselhovede 97.6 (Hannover/Bremen/Hamburg/Minden)
Kiel 88.4
(I've had BFBS1 as far up as Bad Segeberg, that in your area RMA

admittedly it wasnt a great signal.)
BFBS Radio 2 Location FM Rheindahlen 104.3
Osnabrück 106.3
Hohne 104.7
Bielefeld 101.6
Münster 102.2
Sennelager 105.0
Fallingbostel 95.2
Hameln 106.8
Celle 94.5
(BFBS2 is transmitted on a lower power than BFBS1 and is more local to the town in question)
Looking at your list, the reception in Bad Segeberg must have been coming from Kiel. However, if the reception was poor there, it's pretty unlikely that anything would reach me 10 km South-West of Itzehoe. The fact that Itzehoe's own private mountain - all of 70 - 80 m high if I remember rightly - is directly between us and Kiel is probably the final straw.
With a bit of luck you might manage to receive it when you're fishing though!

...Or alternatively you can be a really sad git like me who gets it via satellite when I'm in the UK - You just need to turn your dish to 7degrees East (Eutelsat W3a apparently) and it comes thumping in in stereo.
If you want BFBS Germany you need to listen to the Gibralter feed - No, I don't know why either.
Not very fair to call it "hospital radio". It is after all public service radio whose promise of performance is solely to give the soldiers what they ask for - And by all accounts that is precisely what they get.
If BFBS started to sound too much like the Einslives and NDR2s the Federal Government would soon get the FM transmission turned off in Germany.
Be interested to know who it is that gets on your preverbials Slack - I have a candidate in mind...
During the 5 years that I lived in Kiel I never got one single second of BSBS despite getting on the local radio electricians nerves. Only when I got in the car and hit Hamburg did anything turn up.
Michael
BFBS of course - I humbly apologise. Michael

NO, actually it was on the Visselhovede 97.6 (Hannover/Bremen/Hamburg/Minden) transmitter, I have also heard it on a good day in Itzehohe.
There is no chance of hearing it in fishing in Tielen as its further north than you are.
You certainly won't get Visselhovede up there, but if Kiel is transmitting with any power at all, it ought to reach Heide and surrounds.

I used to be able to pick up BFBS when driving from Itzehohe to Brunsbüttel, also right to the end of the autobahn before the contraflow through the narrow bit over the bridge. Bear in mind that my arial is up higher than most on the truck, but it was definitely not coming from Kiel, the Kiel transmitter hasnt been there for very long and this was a while back when i used to cover the North of Germany as my Stamgebiet.
BRING BACK NANKERS, with his horse of course.

Any chance of getting Hatch and Duffus back ASAP, the afternoon is not the same without them!
I'm actually working and attending meetings between 2 and 4!

I feel left out! I've never heard it as I used to live near Stuttgart and now I'm in Birmingham. All I could tune into near Stuttgart was the American forces radio which annoyed me.
Is there no way of getting it on the internet or something? I'd like to listen to see what it's like...

Hi RMA,
it is rather unlikely that the signal comes from the Kiel transmitter - its
power is only 30 Watts (see
www.senderfotos.de > Schleswig-Holstein > Kiel) -
it can only be received within a limited area, not even all over Kiel!
The signal you are receiving can only come from the Visselhövede transmitter on 97.6 FM.
Long last BFBS - thank God an alternative to German crap radio!!!
Yours

I believe the Kiel transmitter was set up for the British Yacht Club based there.
