Nettles and Bärlauch (bear's garlic) around Munich

Don Riina's request for mead got me thinking of other Aulde and Goode Fyr Thee Drinks. Might try and do something with nettles, if someone knows where there's a big patch, not close to any major roads.

I also would like to collect some Bärlauch (bear's garlic) if someone knows of a good place to go. I fear that it might be a bit too late for that though. I know I can buy it in certain stores, but I would get a kick out of collecting it myself.

There was plenty of Bärlauch in Andechs.

my freezer is full of Bärlauch because I picked loads in Herr Indoors' mum's garden. Still lots left of nettles and Bärlauch around BGL.
I wouldn't pick any in Munich though, too many dogs etc.

BE CAREFUL!!

I just saw on the news that an elderly couple DIED because they collected baerlauch along with some other highly poisonous plant which looks very much like baerlauch! The report said that only 50g of the plant is enough to kill someone! Yikes! So, if you are going to pick it yourself, please be careful!

PS--I saw loads of baerlauch being sold at Viktualienmarkt on Thursday.

Eeek, thanks for the warning Chanda. The two plants easily confused with it are meadow saffron and lily of the valley. The difference is easily spotted, so long as you know what you are looking for, but thanks for the heads up. I certainly will be careful.
